If they'd just gone with cancer from the beginning, it wouldn't have blown up in their faces. The Royal Publicists can't tell their ass from an ant hill.

That's Cholmondeley to you, good sir.

I know Pippa's married, but come on, William's going to be king some day!

Come on, the only ones looking bad here are the people so obsessed with Kate Middleton and the Royals that they sit around with their thumbs up their asses and spin up gossip and then feign outrage when they find out the truth.

She has cancer, leave the woman alone.

Bullshit. Their power comes from the story that they are appointed their privilege by divine intervention. That’s what royalty means. If they can’t spin the story to their purpose, then I guess their whole reason for being above the masses is moot.

The Queen is dead. God save the King!

    Let their followers devour them.

Fuk'n eh hound! Fuck the Royals, I didn't fucking vote for the king. How bout they give back the $4 or 5 billion to the masses and do some good with their fortune. Bullshit antiquated system. Royal fucking shmoyal.

You can't expect to wield supreme power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony! If I went round sayin I was an emperor because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

How's the inherited constitutional monarchy different than all the trust bunnies wasting the family fortune. Plenty of people with inheritied wealth doing a lot less to earn it than the royals. Running around cutting ribbons and being nice to the little people sounds like work to me. I can't even be bothered to be nice on a shared chair lift. And someone has to pretend that England still matters.

In any case, I wish her and every other woman who has whatever she has well. Cancers found in women during abdominal surgery are a rough bunch of tumors and the women do not go easily. I hope that what she says--that the chemo is purely preventative--is right. There are only a handful of people in the world who deserve to die that way (and the ones that come to mind are all men).

Minor thread drift: OG - I'm unclear on the use of the word "preventive" here. I've always associated preventative with blocking a possible but not yet present issue. She has cancer - how can they prevent it if it's already occurred? Is it simply that they removed the visible cancerous tissue/organ, and have (foolishly?) assumed that it's all gone, but think it might spontaneously re-occur? I suspect that it's more of a "we got what we could, but there could be more" kind of a thing, in which case prevention seems mis-applied.
I'm definitely not a dental oncologist.

The medical term is adjuvant chemotherapy, which means chemotherapy given when all known cancer has been removed but there is a high chance that some microscopic cancer is still in the body which can grow and spread. As opposed to therapeutic chemotherapy which is given when all cancer cannot be removed. (In the case of some kinds of cancer therapeutic chemotherapy can cure the cancer even without surgery or radiation and on the other hand adjuvant chemotherapy is not always successful in preventing the cancer from coming back.) Without knowing more about her case, which the public has no more right to know about than any employer has to know about an employee's health, it's impossible to know what her chances are. (The royal family are after all employees of the British people, exceedingly well paid, but then there's no pension plan--they have to work until they die unless you're an embarrassment--see Edward VIII--and they pay you off to go away.)

How about everybody gets an equal piece of the pie? Or no one gets special treatment or not enough special treatment? Wouldn't be the first time in history that things were renegotiated, modified or thrown out.

.... so preventative is just a smoke screen.
    Got it.
