Lines shouldnt be that bad because of all the people who stay away because of the $20 fee. I ski there probably 40 weekend days a season, so call it 50 cents a day. Not that bad.

I mostly ski weekdays but will go on the weekend from time to time depending on what’s going on at work, if friends are going to be there and conditions. It’s usually a game time decision to go get a couple of hours in the morning so I find this all pretty annoying. Wonder if people with the parking pass will still have to make a reservation?

The issue for me is the reservation. It destroys the ability for spontaneous decision on Friday night to go. I can’t always plan ahead. Besides, I leave early to beat traffic both coming and going. So I am the person getting penalized.

Summit/Vail County is as close to urbanized mountains as we have in the west no? Embrace it if you are lucky enough to live it.

The transportation infrastructure in Colorado has failed. You can't even drive 55 on I76 driving back to Iowa if you don't want to break your windshield on a bump or roller or worse lose a wheel in a pothole.

I appreciate how bad this sucks for locals, but big picture, the bus system is a failure, I70 is a cluster fuck, too many people, not enough parking. I don't know why anybody would travel to Summit County during peak season, but they do because location and the skiing and living is pretty good. You can park for free in Iowa because nobody in their right mind would live here.

What is the ski area supposed to do to address the problem?

And yeah, it sucks A Basin has joined the darkside, but they were already owned by a conglomerate. The government owns the land, the parking money or part of it, should go to pay for public transport.

We stayed in Gunnison for a week in cheap digs and rode the free bus to CB and back. Zero hassle during spring break and then non lift lines. What an amazing thing. How can they do it?

This is surprising. If skiing really means that much to you why haven’t you moved somewhere where access is easy? People that live in large metro areas within a few hours of ski resorts shouldn’t be surprised about the shit show. If you want easy access skiing and/or uncrowded slopes sacrifices will have to be made.

The last day that I ever skied in Colorado was March 8th, 2020 at A Basin right when covid was getting real and right before the lockdowns.

I wanted a better life, so I left for a place that is better in every dimension that is meaningful to me. The Colorado front range dream is a nightmare, and I'm so glad to be free of it.

Every friend that I had in the front range who cared about skiing moved somewhere with better skiing and fewer people- Revelstoke, Jackson, Teton Valley, Crested Butte, Leavenworth, Whitefish- there are better places that will eventually be ruined by population growth or global warming, but for now life is so much better away from the shitshow that is Denver and the ski resorts and mountain towns that are accessible from Denver.

We all make sacrifices and decisions in life. Most people living in large metro areas are there for a reason, work, money, schools, “culture” etc.

I skied Targhee last month. Weekend skiing had lift lines, parking issues, lifts shutting down, etc. We still had fun, but it wasn't some kind of paradise that was incredibly different than the ski areas 10 mins from my house in CO. In fact, the skiing in the resort, although there was powder, was not really much better than many front range resorts I can think of.

It's a flex. Skiing has been an amazing positive influence in my life. But not without cost. I do have empathy for families, my friends including, that live in the city and struggle to provide that experience for their kids.

Gratitude is classy. Trying to high five yourself isn't.
