Are you asking what A-basin would have to charge if they were country club skiing? Or more relevant what they could charge. Don't know, but I think this is the PowMow model. $1,500. not sure if comparable.

1995 was the first year I had a season pass in colorado. can't remember if it was the colorado pass or the buddy pass (get four people together and pay $800 total for 4 season passes). had them both during the late 90's and they both included A-basin. think from 95-2000 paid $200-$300/year.

I'm surprised it took you so long...

I've got 22 days in this season, and only 5 of those days have been at FR resorts.

I suspect you're about to become a destination skier - couple week-long trips somewhere to scratch the itch.

Only for the jaded locals, mainly.

Buddy Passes started in 99 and set us on this trajectory. Yes, it sucks. But if you are surprised, that's on you.

I’m very patient and just suck up the long days of traffic and bullshit so I get the joy of skiing with our daughter. But it just gets less and less worth it. I guess we could leave late, miss traffic, park for free at 1 and ski for 3 hours on a Sat or Sun.

That's how my wife and I have done our FR days this season. It works fine for us...

Super interesting stats - January 1997 there were 23,000 daily cars through the tunnel. 2024 there were about 35,000. I don't blame Ikon - it's the number of skiers in general. So many more people are skiing and we don't have that much more terrain to ski.

You only notice 'cause YOU'RE getting old(er). Shit was happening every year, but when we were younger we didn't notice.

My kids don't notice any of this shit. But they will when they're 45.

You and your family might be too stoned to realize what was changing over the years, but not all of us. I have a shit memory and I distinctly remember changes at Bridger decades ago that changed the mountain and I remember the slow steady growth of the place. The last 5 years industry changes have accelerated dramatically and have been unprecedented - which can't be dismissed as "mannnnn you just haven't been paying attention, this has been happening for years!"

Has anyone ever taken the Summit Stage bus from Frisco or Silverthorne to A-Basin? I'm contemplating doing what I do on SLC trips with the UTA-Bus to Snowbird and Solitude. If it's reliable, quick, and not-too-crowded, I'd consider going the shuttle route to get my weekend skiing next year.

Reliable and uncrowded. Not convenient or quick. have to switch once coming from silverthorne or 2x coming from frisco.

After sleeping on it, I think I'm gonna buy a $150 parking pass and season pass and see how it all goes. I think that it is complete bullshit, but I've gotta ski and the Basin is the only local area that I still like. Until I can sell my business and move away, hopefully sooner than later, the place is all I have in the winter.

So if anyone wants a ride up let me know! Haha.

    Pros to parking pass-
-10 min drive from my house vs 30 mins bus ride with 15 min walk back and forth. 20 mins vs 1.5 hrs a day.
-Knowing that I can show up at 10am on a Saturday and have my spot reserved instead of rushing to get there at 8am? kinda nice
-I hate busses, claustrophobia get worse every year for me.
-not wearing out my boot soles walking to the bus stop
-being able to bring as many beers lawn chairs, camper, grill, etc up there
-this pass better be useable in multiple cars and just tied to passholders or totally transferable or something

    Cons-
-Giving into another one of Al's shitty plans to fuck the place up disguised a altruism
-Paying $150- money grows on trees around here!
-dealing with reservations, can't be that hard after the first few times right?
-assuming I can get a pass? they aren't even on sale yet, how many are there? fuckers!

Sounds like a side hustle in the making. What's a shuttle bus cost? How much parking do you have?

Last thing I need is a side hustle. But yeah, if they let the passes be transferable and I can rent them out to people for $10, maybe even sell my reservations after they are sold out? That would be great.

They are on sale. got my bag-o-schlongs last night. Last few seasons there have truly been a sanctuary from the bs of other options. I'm not gonna bail now because some changes will probably suck. Each of the last few years I've been excited to get next year's pass as soon as available. Doesn't feel the same this year, but I also don't feel like ruminating on it when I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna learn anything new that would change the call.

I meant the parking pass. Not for sale yet.

This is surprising. If skiing really means that much to you why haven’t you moved somewhere where access is easy? People that live in large metro areas within a few hours of ski resorts shouldn’t be surprised about the shit show. If you want easy access skiing and/or uncrowded slopes sacrifices will have to be made.

    Livid bro...just livid!

Joking aside, not verified but a friend of mine said Dreams disclose stated EBITA as $11mm so parking looks profitable.

    And yes,it's challenging.

I’ve been in Denver for 19 years. It was fairly easy for much of that time, if you’re smart about timing, navigating around the shitshow, etc. It’s just gotten harder and not as worth it on weekends but we cannot give up on skiing with her.

Anyway, I guess we’ll roll with whatever the Basin does with all of this.

    Wink

Watching The SnowShow and others go through all the stages of the Kubler-Ross Grief Model has been entertaining, at least.
The older I get, the faster I was.

I looked at ticket prices for midweek in late spring after Copper closes - $56, I'll pay it.
