The Crustal weather reports have been trending that way for quite a while, and the afternoon updates frequently occur right around the same time. I thought they were just precisely punctual with their precipitation pontification but maybe there's more science going on behind the scenes.

Speaking of precip I was expecting snow all morning but then this happened:

Best turns of the year for me down brain damage on Sunday. It was rather windy so south faces were scoured while the King was bottomless blower

Now back to Alpental where I belong and they can't even get the lifts open before 11am

I finished the day with 5 runs on 4. Great wind buffed snow. It was nice up high too but the visibility wasn’t great early this morning

I was expecting the snow to be a little heavier down low but it was pretty much the same everywhere, nice creamy snow

It was almost as good as the day we skied castle before the slide. That day our spray was going up over our heads from behind. Close though. I have a video with the wind blown filling my tracks as I stood there.

I couldn’t see my tracks the second time I skied Castle East. Hope Windy opens tomorrow, Skookum gullies were really good

Yeah. The snow is a lot more reactive than you’d think. Not too deep but probably just enough to potentially eff you up.

Crystal had a wonderful winter send off today

Dumping snow mixed with intense sunny blue skies and temps that made the sun blazing hot.

Skied a couple lift line chute runs in the morning waiting for South to open. Many fewer sharks makes it much more fun, though nearly blew myself up narrowly avoiding a few in the tight chute right under c6.

South opened around 1130 and all the W facing things that had been shaded from the morning sun were *excellent*. The E facing things were (much) heavier

Got four laps through a mix of a-basin and silver basin, with many, many face shots including first tracks down Hourglass. Definitely wasn't the blower pow of the December deep freeze, but it was excellent March pow

White Pass is becoming my new favorite place to ski on my days off, Monday was quite pleasant, nice and cool, some new snow, plenty of quality left overs, no lift lines, but I forgot to stock up on Los Hernandez Tamales on the way home

I stop at Los Hernandez every time I’m going through there. So good

Gnarly avalanche conditions out there and bound to get worse with the incoming record heat.
Stay safe all... Good weekend to skip backcountry skiing I'd say

Prettier decent day. Dense and creamy wind buff. Probably the last of winter snow for a while

I’m with Kamtron here, please be smart as it goes roasty the next few days. The NWAC folks could use a few days without any more troubles.

    No shit.

RIP Matt; easy-going, dedicated, genuine, and admirable guy. Always with a smile on his face when we ran across each other. My heart aches for his wife and kid.

It’s been a tough week on the east side. We’re going to miss him too much. Thanks Jackattack for the words and reminder for his family-I’m not great at talking about these things, but the community is holding each other up right now. Be safe out there. Click image for larger version.

We were talking about Matt at Midway over beers on Wednesday. I only met him but my friend Robby knew him pretty well. We were thinking back to all the others that we’ve lost in this small community over the years. It sucks but we keep moving.

Still winter on north facing yesterday, even found some soft old pow in wind sheltered areas.

    Almost impossibly beautiful day, again.

I took my AIARE 1 with Matt years ago when he was with BMG. I remember him as super knowledgeable, patient, kind. An ideal instructor and guide.

South facing all the way up to 10k was stable as can be on baker yesterday but south facing at excelsior pass not far away had several D2s Tuesday and Wednesday so you just never really know.

Yesterday seemed like the real start of the warm up, north facing steeps still dry and chalky. Anything flat and/or close to solar aspects was warm, wet and sticky. Needs a few melt freeze cycles
