Thanks all, sounds like we’ll probably skip that chase.
Got a group of 10+ guys getting together with ski days Saturday through Tuesday, looking forward to some fun.
How are conditions in general? Looks like TSV pretty got missed last night with a few inches expected today. Heading to the area end of this week and hoping for at least a little bit of leftovers from this storm and a little bit of fresh beginning of next week.
50.deg rock hard car sized moguls w stumps and rocks w 2 inches over it.
I’m thinking this going to be one of those crazy windy springs we get here lots of times. It’s howling right now.
Shot down there sun night in hopes of a good Mon and Tues… instead eked out a day at Angel fire then headed home today defeated… Mother Nature bats last
Heading to Taos tomorrow. Looks like the snow conditions won't be super great. Do the hike to runs off the top get smoothed out by wind, etc or will everything off the top be firm and moguled out by now?
Probably kind of firm and moguled - but I’m not sure what you mean by “moguled out.” The weather’s getting warmer so you shouldn’t be expecting ice - it’ll likely soften up as the day goes on and there’s a chance of a storm later this week.
If you don’t like bumps, Taos may not be your cuppa.
I was there the weekend before the wind shutdown-blizzard, and although the snow was old coverage was still really solid and soft turns could easily found if you knew where to look and how to play the aspect. No one was ripping corduroy, but that's not why anyone goes there to begin with. West Basin ruled, and K chutes were![]()

.... I didn't live in NM way back then, but I couldn't help myself.

Just came here to post that. Huh.
Bacon showed up this yr and put his dog on the lift
Some old head said he's trying to swap the ski area land for 100000 acres of sage brush w the Usfs
Ppl already burned the Starbucks 2x, wait until a billionaire tries to privatize tsv. Anarchy.
Has there even been a legit (not having to ride Johnny Lightfoot to avoid rocks) powder day down there this season?

Mid Jan I had a killer day. Overproducer. Didn't venture into steep gnarly. Had many a good day skiing pow for Taos. It's not alta
Having spent the last 2 months there, it's the best vibe wise. Can't spend an entire season there though, watching UT get blasted and TSV in the sun for 6 weeks.
A cabin between wolf creek and Taos, a full wolf creek pass, Taos pass, and maybe another pass up north would be tits.
It's def. not Alta. Only need a few feet to reach average though.

Film and photo crews get early access to pow everywhere obviously, but its generally super early and somewhat hidden. I've been lucky enough to get early access ridge runs when I worked at the hill, but we were super stealthy going in and exiting. He was a jackass to cut people off waiting. That was just an in your face 'fuck you" asshole move.
This chart is wildly interesting, thanks for posting this. I'm reminded how amazing of a mountain this place is even with totals/averages where they are. Almost...because of it? If it got UT snow, it wouldn't feel like Taos anymore; it'd likely be some much larger, soulless version of what it is. Other than a BAD year like 17/18, I hope nothing changes really. Keep it rowdy. Keep it manageable.
And as I was telling my buddy's teenager on our visit two weekends ago, "If you can ski this mountain in a dry spell (and it wasn't a particularly long one, but...) you can ski anywhere". That resonated. And the turns ruled.
^ that's the spirit.
