Our ski neighbor skied a gs down thee last week. Course below is as she described. Her only time skiing Mammoth and that is the only thing they ended up skiing for the day. She called it "a little frustrating" otherwise looking around at the hill.

Yeah, committing to racing does have its drawbacks...until they cancel due to too much snow ;-)

Skied Saturday, which was fun as the weather came in, and Sunday which was awesome..
I was out on Sunday as well. It was like two completely different days with the morning vs afternoon sessions. Glad I stayed as the 2nd half of the day the upper mtn turned on.

Sunday morning was the worst case scenario. A weekend crowd with the upper mtn on weather hold pushing everyone down low. The results were huge lines everywhere. I took a couple runs which included close to a 30 minute wait at ch 22 and said
"Fuck this!" and went back to my truck played the waiting game.

Dave's on Sunday morning before the Top opened. This turned into the run of the day later in the afternoon.

I got back out on the hill at 11:30 just as the upper mtn was opening. Got on 23 and ended up skiing til closing.

Afternoon Daves. Lookers right line was velvet with the wind direction setup perfectly refilling your tracks each run. Turned into a great day of skiing.

Today was incredible. Operations were terrible, but everything eventually opened. Great day.

    Nice!!!

Some of my housemates are still up there. I wish we could have stayed.

Sunday the lines were long, but we did have lots of fun on chair 5 and in the Paranoids. The snow in the noids was a bit softer than I thought it would be, I was picturing it a bit more wind affected.

Here are a few clips. The first one is me crashing in P1, after seeing that I was turning right into a rock covered in snow I tried to overcorrect and crossed a tip. My ski popped off, but the snow was deep enough that I just face planted and stayed where I was.

The snow in P1 was much softer than I expected, particularly if you hugged the rocks on the skier's left. Just don't get too close

Despite the long lift lines Sunday was still a blast.

Yup, this was Far West U16 Super G. Same races Janky mentioned being cancelled on Thursday.

Been traveling a bunch so minimal posting. Mini Comish now 15 and not so mini, was with me on Thursday. We were in line for first Gondi car and waited a while. Then it went on wind hold. Argh!?!? Frustrating, but it turned out ok. Ron said it was done and they were disconnecting the top and bottom so headed out to find 3 open with people heading out the High T. Notice as we are heading out that 23 was loading, sweet!

So scored a lower drop out to 23 to Noids and were maybe the 3rd group into P2 which hadn't slid. Good fun. Did a few laps in the Noids before calling it a day around 3ish. Didn't see ya ESS. Janky, we should ski one of these U16 race weekends.

Then flew to New Hampshire for the long weekend on a red eye after Friday's races. Mini Comish is ready to specialize in Slalom and is not a fan of Super G :
He who has the most fun wins!

Cool, I am a fan...the appearance in eastern sierras photo was pretty cool, as he is largely focusing the deep stuff, which i enjoy also, but the high level perspective shot on super-G course was nice...

MAMMOTH 23/24 - WE ARE READY FOR THE SNOW NOW

Good day out on the Mtn today. No real lift lines to speak of other than the Gondi. I got my G2 laps in early in the day and stuck to ch 23, which had no line for most of the day.

I did Huevos first thing in the morning. There’s a little bit of a drop over some rocks to get into it, but after that it was good skiing. Zoom in and you can see a skier in it doing the Walk of Shame. He skied up to the drop then changed his mind and hiked up and out.
Bro, just zen in & drop in. Have some pride.

Last run of the day in Avi 3. Climbed in over the rocks and got in at the top. Skiers right line was really good. Sweet day!

Wasn’t sure if should put this in the Eastside thread or not, thought maybe the mammoth crowd might be more interested….

Went cat skiing out of Virginia Lakes with the new operation yesterday, legit crew & super fun wide open pow all day long. Got 9 runs & would have got 10 but a couple crashes slowed us down. Some long steepish runs & some lower angle runs with endless stress free pow. Didn’t need to walk uphill one step, used inbounds gear all day, but there is an option to bootpack or possibly skin if everyone in the group is keen. Highly recommend it for us older folks I didn’t get the greatest pictures and I have no idea how to upload a video on TGR, give Drew a call at High Sierra snowcat & yurt, total came to $580 after tax & forrest service fee.

Right? That looked really good to me.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

    PW7,

    Thank you for posting!

I will definitely look into that in the future.

Forecast looks spicy for this weekend. Will be interesting to see how the Sierra do; hopefully builds the snowpack up to average annual levels.

^^ Agreed. Likely full mtn shut down Friday if forecasts play out. Saturday continues to blow, maybe Sunday is the digout day, with Avi running all Monday morning...hopefully Monday afternoon things open up top...because another storm is on the books for Tuesday!
