Cut the cable cord 10 years ago. Had netflix and hulu for fall/winter months, rarely turn my tv on in the summer. Hulu decided it's app would no longer work on my perfectly fine samsung smart tv. One day it was there, literally the next day *poof*, gone. Hulu said I needed to buy a new smart tv in order for the app to work again. FU mother fuckers I'm out.

So Netflix it is until summer + Paramount+ just to watch Jon Stewart's return starting Monday. Wish I could only pay for one day of the week.

You could use a Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc, and stream whatever you want.

I use a Roku standalone box because it seems to work better than the Samsung smart TV apps.

Roku, Firesticks, etc Can be had for 30 bucks and work great and are supported better than various smart tv sw platforms. I prefer going that route than dealing w TV sw

My hope is that sports goes to a season pass model. IE $200 a year to watch your team, $500 a year to watch any game…

That is exactly what is happening, and it’s substantially more expensive. The a la carte model for services sucks for customers, IMO.

I’d hope that given the Amt of public funding all leagues depend on in one form or another they should be required to at least provide a free broadcast of the local teams

RE: You Tube, lots of free content like the opening monologues for Colbert, Kimmel and Meyers. Usually had to site through 5-15 seconds of ads, now it seems like anything worth a shit its up to 30 seconds of ads before they roll the content and then at least one interruption for a commercial.

have you noticed any slow-down on youtube when you use it? starting probably two months ago, youtube would slow down to unwatchable speeds and just generally be awful when i had my adblock enabled. everything went away soon as i turned it off. now i pay for youtube premium and still have to disable my adblocker every time i go to youtube.

None at all. I also watch most youtube at 1.5x though. You don't want to combine origin with any other adblocker. Try refreshing the quick update in settings.

just a few years ago, you could sit out a movie and get it free on cable in a year, they hold that off now until the squeeze all the streaming money out of them, sports going to be the same. espn is making money streaming app state at richmond, your local will figure out how to make more streaming than giving it to you the day streaming it makes more than public ads.

I thought I read somewhere that Youtube slowing down the vids was not actually happening. I've been using AdBlock plus, never had any slowdowns. It doesn't block commercials on YT but it does basically skip straight to the end of them.

Baseball has been the big loser here. I used to watch the Rays a lot. Now I can't watch any games anywhere. Bally blew. FoxSports was awesome before.
We lost all ability to watch baseball when we decided to cut cable.

I can watch anything else I want to see though. I am watching 6 Nations Rugby now on Peacock. I used to have to pirate it through a VPN. I watch Premier league all the time on Peacock. If I miss a game, I can watch replays.

All together, it has been a lot better. I do find it getting more and more expensive though. Something I warned my wife about when we did it. Kinda saw this coming.

A $200 or $500 flat fee to watch sports. They can piss off.

Same here. When I was about five our television pooped the bed and the ‘rents didn’t replace it for like three years. Instead I was given books and all kinds of science project stuff to play with. Great time, learned a lot of cool stuff, didn’t miss TV.

We haven’t had a TV or cable service for about 15 years. Don’t miss it at all. Wife gets movies from Netflix & Amazon. I subscribe to Peacock during the summer months to catch the UCI Grand Tours. Last June Peacock gave me a one year deal for $19.95 (vs like $6.95/mo) so tomorrow I hope to catch Ms Shiffrin notch her 100th win. Otherwise, we read books.

I always buy the $20 a year Peacock subscription on Black Friday. It's only for first time subscribers though not renewals, so the next year I just add my.email+peacock1@gmail.com. Anything after the + doesn't matter to gmail, but peacock reads it as a different account and I just change one number in my login and am good for the next year.
