Having a real skier in government is a good thing, even if I disagree with her on the gas export pause being good (it is needed for EU energy security vs Russia).

Virtually every one complaining about the pause has their hand in the pot.

EU has been trying to get away from Middle Eastern dependencies just as the US has.
Switching energy dependence from Russia to Qatar is merely progressing from worse to bad. That depence is vulnerable to the vagaries of:
Iran attacking commerce and/or closing the Hormuz passage
Yemen (Iranian Houthis) attacking commerce and/or closing the Bab el Mandeb strait
China potentially attacking commerce if EU backs Taiwan (they can reach that zone and have bases there)
Egypt potentially closing Suez if they disagree with EU
Qatari government (remember they are an OPEC member and host and support Hamas) potentially reducing or cutting supply
The US as a gas supplier to EU is so much better, safer, and predictable for the EU, the US, and the free world. Not to mention US environmental controls are far better than the Middle East. Gas is the least bad fossil fuel and it should come from the higher standards producers.

Them and a few other gas companies are on board in the US but it's not enacted regulation. New regs did come down (0000a) which may make it so more have to but i'm sure it'll get repealed when the orange guy wins in 2024. We literally provide air compressors instead of using well gas to actuate valves.
Our production is set to nearly double with the projects that have already been approved and Europe is expected to transfer from fossil fuels to renewable energy. When they say they're gonna be ok for the next ten years, and that there will be no short to medium term impacts on gas supply security, I believe them.

If they are gonna be OK with Qatari gas, then I call BS for the geopolitical security reasons I said above.
Also, switching to renewables probably won't eliminate gas home heating and gas peaker plants, there will still be a LOT of gas needs. Renewables are not a pushbutton cureall. They have issues too.

It is notably absent from this however (and note the part about when the pause is likely to affect the EU)
"The EU will become a declining gas consuming region, the signals are downward," said Anne-Sophie Corbeau, a researcher at Columbia University's Center on Global Energy Policy.
"Between growing biomethane, Norwegian gas, some African gas, Azeri gas and declining production, we might just see eventually a progressive decline of our LNG demand, especially post 2030, and this is precisely for that period that the Biden decision would matter," she said.

I thought this thread died 2 years ago. I’ll see if I can dig up some old Tele talk threads

Just remember to caveat this with they are necessary to lower our GHG inventory.
A few of us are working on areas where batteries can be added to the grid to help with demand response and also add resiliency. We also, generally speaking, have the capacity for a shit-ton more renewables on our grid, as is.
Also, there will be a lot of sticks and carrots to decarbonize buildings, which you'll start seeing soon.
But, back to the thread at hand.
It takes a LOT to run for office, no matter what your chances are. Your skeletons are being searched for

Meant Utah Senator, we all know what she’s running for.
Anyone who thinks she's running for anyone but herself is fooling themselves. She's just adding to the din during an election and distracting folks from the conversations they should be having. I worry that campaigns like this that have no realistic chance of winning just suck the money and focus of those who don't see the larger picture or even worse, we get another round of Butthurt Bernie Bitches who fail to show up on election day because "their" candidate isn't on the ballot. That ended well.
Is it fair to believe that most political campaigns-especially the ones that successfully get candidates elected, intentionally lead the narrative to narrow sided conversations which don't actually consider all variables or make our country/state better?
I don't know or pay much attention to Caroline but for me, it's reasonable to believe someone would run for office simply because they have a message they want to spread and believe it's worth putting their voice out there even if they will likely lose the election. I also think it's unfair to blame her for others failing to use their voting power because their most desired candidate isn't on the ballot. That's on each individual imo.
Cool to see Caroline ripping A-Basin! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3WGy...Jvd2VpcGl4Ng==
Wonder how much she got paid for that promo?
Okay, I don't know much about this chick, but I would not call that video ripping. My wife's a solid blue square skier and rips just as good as this chick. Too lazy to google her and she if she's got some vids of her launching Chad's gap switch. Is she just someone who goes for the #skichicklifestyle clicks? I don't get it.

She’s going to lose really hard. She has no talking points besides “I climbed a mountain so I can do anything”. Can not stand this narcissistic woman.
I am not a Caroline fan, and I would love to see a more qualified moderate candidate enter the race, but I feel like I should defend her a little. She does have a platform that includes protecting the environment and reproductive rights which are both massively under attack in Utah. Also she is skiing on skimo race gear for most of that A-basin video, and skiing aggressively on 700g skis is impossible. Having seen her ski in person, she isn't the fastest but she is very talented and there is a reason she was the first female to ski a lot of really gnarly stuff..
^^ Yep totally qualified![]()
