@TeleBeaver, I'll take em out this weekend now that Oregon is finally getting snow again. They should be able to rack up some vert over the next week. My current hypothesis is that the reason they get a lot of love is that they're heavier than the average backcountry ski but marketed as pure backcountry skis. I measured my pair at 2000g, which is in the same ball park as deathwishes and my 50/50 ON3P skis, despite being a few cm shorter.

Yeah at that weight they weigh the same as my 2019 190 deathwishes and I would be looking to use them for inbounds quite a bit.

After some reshuffling, I am pretty satisfied with the state of my quiver. I am trying to keep my stance and skiing style relatively consistent across the entire quiver, so I can minimize the adjustment period when changing to different skis.

The main variable that I want to vary across the quiver is surface area / flotation, while keeping most other variables relatively constant. I developed knee problems from skiing wide powder skis too often last season, so I sold off some wide skis and added some skinnier skis to the quiver.

I like that there is currently enough separation between skis in the quiver to make the decision on which skis to grab in the morning a relatively easy choice. For reference, most of my skiing is in the Colorado Front Range.

    The 2024 Quiver:
    - Orb (88mm) - Firm, Crud, and Chop Resort Ski and Late Spring / Summer Touring Ski
    - Meteorite (97mm) - Spring Touring Ski
    - Chugach (107mm) - Winter Touring Ski
    - Lotus 138 (138mm) - Faceted Base / 6+ in Powder Days Ski

203 RS: everyone needs a straight ski in the quiver! These aren't just for hotdog day, I take these out quite often just to make sure I remember how to actually ski.

188 R99 Comp: these may usurp the OG LPs from the throne?

184 LP105: my go to ski for soft conditions. The 192 used to be my DD but I guess I'm getting old and the 184s are an absolute blast.

186 OG LP: my go to for the past 18 years...probably close to 1000 days on this ski (I've gone through a few pair in that time..)

186 Manace: for skiing with the kids. Topsheets are thrashed from being run over so many times. These things absolutely rail tree trails.

    184 HM107: for sightseeing tours.

    The collection:

    Speeeeeed!!!!

If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

Using that last image of the whole quiver to show my wife I in fact do NOT have a ski problem.

While I am equally impressed by the size and depth of Gwat's quiver, I'm also impressed that it functions as a living museum of Dynastar and Pivot evolution over the past few decades.

Hit me up if you ever want to get rid of the Keepers w/out clamps. Mine are missing 3” of an edge but are still my fav resort soft snow ski.

Good to know. I've been on the fence multiple times about finding the Keepers another good home. They are 189s, BTW and always fun.

Mine too. Another reason they are….‘keepers’. [emoji6] When these beasts are feeding it’s always a good and memorable day!

Always on the look out for 189’s apart from the crazy psychedelic Rorschach Test top sheets. Yours are my favorite.

Hey thanks, that's the main reason I keep this silly collection going. Some call it hoarding, I call it curating.
I do need to get into the modern era with some Mfrees and there are a few skis the collection is sorely lacking, notably the Arno Adam Bigs and Vertical Extremes (in men's length)...

Everyone is oohing and awwing (or hating) the latest Forza colourways but Look has been rocking some killer colours since the 80s. Some of these bindings date to '86 (I personally wouldn't ski anything made before that), and after a thorough cleaning and greasing I have no hesitation charging as hard on the '86 pivots as I would with a fresh P15.

Woah, nice. Have you done any touring on your fx96ti? I thought I was crazy for thinking about touring on that ski but I guess I'm not the only one. Seemed like it would be fun for charging big lines in the spring.

yes and it’s badass. It’s like 1850 per ski and uphill is easier than that implies esp since you can size down on that ski. I’ve never wanted more support up or down - it’s stiff enough to give you a nice platform while being tight length and width wise. Does great in technical terrain and if you have a forward stance is loose enough in 8-10 inches of powder on the way down Doesn’t feel heavy. Very underrated 50/50 ski.

That being said, it’s not a super damp charger of a ski. It punches well above its weight but I ski a 180 to keep it tight and it doesn’t have the mass of much heavier skis. It’s way more ski than the outgoing 96 without metal (the hp) though. the 106ti - that’s a beefy charger but imo way too heavy to tour on.

Some of my best days in Jackson were on the 96ti. It rips and is light. I’d size down not up. It’s all there.
