^^^people were taking Little Pine up and then traverse to singles line at PMX. Guess nobody wanted to wait to get an Uphill Arm Band

Funky opening day at Ski Bowl between the power outage and snow conditions. They never got Lower Chair open, and Red Chair and Upper Bowl opened together around 11, so people were worked up scrambling around trying to get first tracks.

Surprise surprise, upper bowl was wind scoured, and Canyon was a brick. Any "first tracks" were a thick 2.5" crust on grappel.

Variable conditions all over. You could ski about a dozen different snow types on a single run. Wind scoured, boilerplate, chalk, dust on crust, crust on dust, groom, cement, light pow (where the crust had been broken up), cream, styrofoam... very variable, windy, and cold.

But a very fun day, we had a friend from outta town here "powder chasing", and it was nice to meet up.

You should know better than to leave stuff like that laying around. Still, I'm guessing standing in a long line for Big Pine is better than a day in the office. At least the sun is out up there. I've been in the fog all day long.

Note photo was taken from "the rock bar."
Off piste was a no go. You could Z00m on the Gr00m it was madness & mayhem. But the weather.....

My boy said Calamity was the best skiing yesterday. I wish I had gotten over there.

it was good to get back to the bowl yesterday. That was a wild storm this weekend.

For sure. My boy yesterday, as we rolled off the hill, had me in stitches when he voiced Ullr. “You bastards have been complaining about no winter, so here have it all right now”

I want to buy some skis from a Bend Mag but need to sell mine first. Anyone interested in some 186 Nordica 94s see my listing in Ski Swap. Perfect tools for Mt.Bach's recurring solid surface. I will deliver locally.

After dealing with the stresses of climate change & El Niño, Ullr has turned into a mean drunk…

Today was great though - other than the crust

Saw our buddy in the store, and he was talking bout getting up to Bend on Thursday for a ski trip and waiting in line for 2 hours for frozen chairs and turning around going home.

Day 5 of the ice storm... freezing rain is turning into regular rain, so it was snotty slimy ice conditions this morning. Making the best of it by cruising around on our skis outside the house in the neighborhood for 3 days, except Monday, we went to Skibowl.

This ice storm ice is so firm and slick. We can really get going on the neighborhood streets. It got gnarlier by the day as the freezing rain arrived. Sunday was safe to ski the asphalt all over (where it wasn't graveled). Tuesday was fine to ski on the icy grass and some shorter streets.

Wednesday, I was just feeling the yard:

all sorts of precip happening but frustratingly delivered in rain/sleet/snow cycles such that the snowpack is kinda shit for skiing conditions

was excited for a sahale early load saturday, but between the snow quality expectations and mhm's difficulties getting lifts going, i'm not sure it's worth the commute

    oof

What's the outlook this weekend? Seems like the freezing rain is inescapable in all directions till you get to Whistler, Jackson, Alta, or Mammoth

I'm seeing less "mixed" precip for Saturday today. I haven't been up since my "accident" on the 8th.
Me and the boy will do our usual Saturday pilgrimage, fingers crossed 84 is open
