That new R110 profile is what I had in my mind to be a sickle replacement... but with a better tip profile. The FR has more rocker than I'd prefer in this slot but, if there is going to be a 180 in the lower rocker R profile I'll throw down right now on a pre-order... that is the Droid I'm looking for.

Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season
I am extremely excited to receive my R110s.
That rocker profile looks fantastic!
Went all in on the colors... 186's mounted 86.5cm from tail, or about -6.75 I think (I hope). Skis look and feel great finally get to ski em tomorrow.
These rail chalky groom.
I’m still getting used to the balance point in variable 3d that’s set up. A little different feel than the cambered skis I’m used to drifting and driving through set up crud and bumps. I may try a slight detune. But generally the few runs I got were fun and I’m looking forward to more fresh.
Any comparisons to the Jeff 110/108 as a softish snow dd?
Marshal... care to comment on why the rec mount on the R110 is farther back than the FR110?
It's the exact same shape and layup but with a different rocker profile, yes?
I have and love skis with progressive and traditional mounts but I have to admit that a rec mount just a tad back of the FR sounds even better to me.
I'm going to buy these skis anyway (R110)... just curious on the difference.

Well, long story short, since its the same cassette shape (flat), the difference in rocker profile where the ski is bent and therefore how much the ski is "shortened" from true length in different spots along the ski. On the R110, less rocker in the tip's body and a flat tail push everything back relevant to the more symmetrical FR Rocker profile.
I also round recommend mounts to the nearest 0.25cm based on the ski's intended use, so there is maybe more like 1.2cm difference if you actually measured and marked the actual ski waists.
I've gotten about 6 days on my 186cm FR110 and thought I'd share my thoughts so far. Especially since I mounted with demo bindings and have been playing with the mount.
- Marshal's description of the ski on page 1 is spot on!
- This ski isn't a charger. Don't get me wrong, you can go fast, but it doesn't work best when you want to hate f*ck the mountain.
- Great resort pow ski.
- Floats like crazy (as good as the best skis in this width and can keep with some in the 120 widths)
- Does well on everything else.
- Also great in resort chop. While not a full on charger, it eats chop for breakfast.
- They work on hard pack WAY better than I ever expected from a full rocker ski!
- I wouldn't say they "carve" as I can't yet trust myself laying trenches with this ski ... but it certainly does turn and is a decent on groomers.
- I'm regularly over 40mph on it in crappy show and it doesn't feel sketch at all. While this is slower than I go with my chargers, it does way better than I ever thought.
- Part of this is likely the tune the came with. The edges and base were perfection ... so much it made me realize I needed to tune up my carving skis because this had a better tune than my 80 & 90mm skis.
- I mounded them with demo bindings and have been playing with mount:
- -8 works the best for me. (I am a directional skier and even -8 requires me to adapt.)
- -7 required too much of an upright stance for me (and I'm old and couldn't adjust).
- -8.5 the ski started to feel unbalanced. (The tips started to feel more hooky and feel less intuitive. -9 just made this worse.)
- I'm struggling on steeper terrain
- Not sure if I need a longer ski (I'm 6"1' and about 240lbs) or just need to get more confidence skiing upright. But when I get into stuff >40 degrees I struggle on them. I find I don't have the confidence as I do with a full camber ski to charge down that stuff and then revert to being more backseat that makes skiing that slope harder. I think this is 90% my own mental block but that is the only area I haven't absolutely loved these.
- Really interested to hear what others find here.
- Is this normal for rockered skis?
- Do I just need to fix my skiing?
- Or maybe the R110 or a longer length is an easier answer than improving technique. lol
I've heard similar things re steep/techy slopes and fully rockered skis. I've always understood it to be a function of the fact that the contact patch can get pretty small on a fully rockered ski when you are edging hard on steep pitch - thus leading to sketchiness. Not sure if that is the case in your situation or not.
If you decide to upsize I'm sure there are a bunch of folks on here who'd be interested in your 186s - me included!
Marshal,
Been so dang busy I haven’t had time to mount my FR110’s.
I ski pretty balanced and upright, short bsl, so I want around -5.5cm to -5.75cm.
Hearing these ski a bit short I’m fine at -5.75cm? eg. just in front of the -6cm rec.
Per the website says straight pull on the 182 is 180.5.
And so to get to -6cm should go +84.25 from tail. 180.5/2 = 90.25 -84.25 = 6
But straight pull on mine is 179.6?
So I’m thinking +84 from tail in straight pull.
179.6/2=89.8-5.75 =+84.05
Thanks in advance.

I love big dumps.
Hey KC, while not Marshal, I had something to do with them.
I think you're right on with those calculations for where you want to be, which should also be a very good place to be for someone skiing in a more upright, centered stance/boot. Just for clarity, 84cm straight tape from tail to boot center?

Enjoy, btw. [emoji846]

Concurr! Sorry about the length typo, but your measurements check out exactly!
LOL, it's almost as if Marshal knew the new R110 would be getting a purple CAST. ;-)
THAT SWALLOWTAIL.
Does it need a thread? lol
Would really like to know the mount.
