Anyone found a solution to their wife/SO not turning off the oven after use? Its not a once in a while thing either, its a 95% of the time thing. Like i will come home after whatever she baked has had time to cool completely and the oven is still on 375. Its an electric unit so there have to be timers you can just set to 2 hour shutoff, right?

Its just generally an extension of her take on finishing anything- the work is done as soon as the "making" stops. Cleanup, putting things back/away, etc are not things that cross her mind or things that she plans for.

No. But I'm guilty of leaving burners on. It is muscle memory from my time as a line cook where the burner would stay on all night. Remove the pan from the heat, not vice verse. Dumb habit.

Sounds like some of you guys could benefit from induction cooktops! They automatically shut off when they detect there's nothing on them. Problem solved.

    lol this.
it's a weekly occurrence over here because thing #2 like her cheesy egg sandwich

what amplifies the problem is that the Mrs never turns on the stove exhaust fan, so the kitchen is permeated with a thick long-lasting stench of burnt eggs-n-cheese.
    style matters...

How the fuck does it know if there's cookies in the oven?

Heat up the pan and then add the fat. She’ll never learn.

I posted this a few years back - she'd always leave the toaster oven on so I glued it's plug into this timer. Could finally sleep again.

Need this for her hair straightening iron, leaves it on constantly. The smell of burning hair and hot plastic gets old

when I use the stove I turn the range hood light on which is suposed to be an indicator the stove is being used so i know if I still see the light is on the stove is on,

it does help a lot but its still fuckup-able, at least if i didnt live alone i could blame it on someone else

I am not sure a timer is a good idea on any appliance with a heating element cuz of how much power they draw, I think the instructions for my Rancillio say don't use a timer on the plug ???

This is a not-uncommon phenomenon. I was informed earlier up-thread that it is called "The Path of Destruction". You can generally recreate your wife's day by following a path around the house of things left on, things left out, doors left open, and so on. They also generally don't recognize that there is an "OFF" position to all things electrical, there is "ON", and...???

Typical household appliances draw a max of 1300W-1400W. Timers are typically rated at 15A. Circuits are typically rated at 15A-20A. There's plenty of current left over. I'd much rather have a timer on a resistive load rather than an inductive load.

I usually hear the gas oven kick on while we are eating and head over to shut the oven off for her. Since I do the dishes I catch the burners still on when I grab the pot/pan to wash it and it’s searing hot.

I get scared when I leave for a few days or more but she’s survived this long I guess.

Kitchen rules: never grab a pot assuming it’s cold. Always use a towel

I look forward to the day when some soon to be ex-husband posts, "I loved my wife but she told me to GTFO".
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

"Happiest years of my life were earning < $8.00 and hour, collecting unemployment every spring and fall, no car, no debt and no responsibilities. 1984-1990 Park City UT"

I took the dog for a run yesterday afternoon and somehow lost the key to *her* car in the snow. It will take a while to live this one down.

I love my wife and all, but Jesus Hercules Christ...

    I sawed down the trees

    I bucked up the trees

    I split all the logs

I stacked all the wood in the stable

I carried the wood from the stable to the house

I got up early to make the fire

If I ask you to feed the fire a log that is next to the stove just once while I am running an errand, can I not come home to the fire completely dead?
