    I guess...sort of.
The KT opening popped up on Twitter, from Snowbrains. Mt.Rose stuff is prolly only if you look at site, or signed up for news.
It is an awesome thing to catch an unexpected rope drop at Rose (only Aidas so far this season).

    What do you mean?

I meant "powder hound" as a description of a skier who was getting out on KT at first opening.

not as the name, or nickname of the individual.

Sorry if it came across wrong...?

Yeah, I think that is from a 2008 incident off of Red Dog in Poulsen's gully.

    Saw the post on X
The Placer County Sheriff has identified the victim of the avalanche as 66 year old Kenneth Kidd of Truckee California.

    I didn’t know him.

Rough day for the Palisades family, good reminder that you can never mitigate all the risk inherent to skiing. Hug your loved ones and say thank you to patrol for all they do when you see them out and about, this has to be rough on them.
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy

It was on the internet so I thought it couldn't be wrong?

Oh well. When you shoot from the hip you sometimes get kinda close.

The other puzzler...why pop new terrain on a storm day, with all of the variables that might entail. And not just wait for tomorrow, which is expected to be bluebird?

Whats your threshold for wearing your backcountry gear inbounds?

if there's enough snow to hide the moguls, it's enough for me to want to be beeping, esp if there's wind, esp if the snowpack is squirrelly

    Storm Update:
Storm was mostly wind all day. It looked like a blizzard, but with very little accumulation. Maybe an inch or two by sunset, depending on where you were. It only started snowing hard after dark.
Result: About 9" of cream cheese at lake level.
It's not slushy, but it's dense and wind affected.

a desire to go out of bounds, which is always present (although it doesn't apply to palisades).

Beacon is on every day except a handful of times since 08/09 season. Full gear depends on where I'm skiing and conditions but the beacon is pretty small and easy to wear. Don't see much reason not to.
