Next weekend is Winterskol in Aspen. Lots of activities, no lines and probably the best skiing in the state.

Copper reported 3" with a forecast of 0. All the coming days are forecast like 1" max. I think they are sandbagging, to keep crowds down this weekend maybe? Also reporting lower temps than expected from other sources.

Fingers crossed that the snow comes dribbling in every day and gets skied over the weekend by Denver and next week should be nice. Not deep powder but nice and soft and rocks covered, but not deadfall, that's my take on it.

I’m not sure what’s going on but the snow summary on open snow says 0-1 next few days and nights but the Joel’s write up says 2-5 for copper today and tonight.

I’d highly doubt copper is trying to keep crowds away, overall it felt like a pretty mellow holiday for the most part. Might have just been a little more spread out over the last couple of weeks rather than condensed into one? I never really waited in lines the days I was there granted I didn’t go on what looked like the busiest 1-2 days they had.

Sometimes is snows more than forecast, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes forecasts vary. I don't think there is a forecasting conspiracy. I don't consume for profit weather. Between NWS, CAIC, HRRR and so on their is free weather.

Check out Chris Tomer’s YouTube channel. He has a mountain weather forecast twice a day during the winter. He talks a lot about what is going on in the models and what his forecast numbers are based on.

Ok, I'll take the tinfoil hat off. But Copper is forecasting 0-1" and the ai I was messing around with produced this:

Day Low Range (inches) High Range (inches)
    Friday, Jan 5th 1-3 4-5
    Saturday, Jan 6th 2-4 5-7
    Sunday, Jan 7th 3-5 6-8
    Monday, Jan 8th 2-4 5-6
    Tuesday, Jan 9th 1-3 4-5

lol we got .25 inches at 9318' this season is kind of turning into a big joke in the high north juans. Next storm just backed off totals again woof. Picked a great season to take off with injury...

Been checking in on that the last few weeks along with the usual NOAA & CAIC Wx

Slow start for sure. I'd normally have 30+ days by now. I'm probably at 10-15. I lost my motivation to ski pretty quick w/ the lack of storms and a new longer drive to skiing following a move. I've been trying to keep myself busy w/ ski related stuff though. Just made a sweet & simple ski rack for the garage. Planning to make boot dryers next.

Lucky you. Come down to 7600' and tour in 8" of fresh on bullet proof crust. Open Snow keeps saying up to a 12-18" or so by next Thursday.

FWIW, A buddy of mine destroyed his pelvis riding Horse gulch and during recovery borrowed my Voile Charger BCs (with scales) and shuffled around at Hillcrest on the skate track. It did him a world of good.

new snow in Breck bonded decent with old snow up high. Had a few surprisingly bottomless feeling turns in the right spots.

Well, it was the best skiing today….and this is prob the worst conditions overall I have ever experienced at eldora. I commend them for the efforts with the guns and groomers so far though

It will be scoured and wind fucked by tomorrow but I’ll go up anyway

Sometimes you go even though you know it is gonna suck just because you know that you will run into like minded individuals who just love getting out and sliding down the hill, having a few beers and shooting the shit, making the best of it and taking it for what it is.

That said, my annual ski trip will be in Mexico this year.
