A LR owner wouldn't get caught dead in that pleb-mobile. 😆 and you’d have to be a midget to sleep in it.

Related- it really cracks me up all the people driving around in CO this time of year in sub-zero temps with RTTs and other gotos equipment that wont be used for another six months, if at all. But I guess traction boards, shovels, and fuel canisters could be useful when their jacked up forerunner get stuck in a snowbank because they drive off the side of the roundabout in Vail.

    So true. Body roll sucks!
But any short wheelbase does. I once borrowed a jeep Tj to drive from Golden to Revy for an avy course. The worst thing I've ever driven.
That's why the 130 instead of the 90 or 110. Decent bed, less body roll, and towing capability of 11,000lbs..

Well yesterday I saw a GOTOS Jeep stuck behind a fresh 2’ berm on the side of 550. CDOT had plowed them in. It looked like driver and passengers weren’t making any efforts to use any of the rooftop accessories to get out, they were just standing there w/ their hands in their pockets. Saw a hi lift on the roof, pretty sure I saw traction pads too. Surely they had a nice shovel and some fuel.

Whats the take? They could have burned the snow away!

Saw a full GOTOS TRD Pro Taco having to chain up in LCC on Saturday on literally the only snow-covered corner in the whole canyon. He had two minivans and a sedan for company. That was amusing. Didn't get a good look at his tire situation.

And those roof-top fly rod cases. In December snow.

    I’ve probably offended someone here.

To be fair, people fish in December. Especially when it's in the high 40's in the Rockies. But alas...your point still stands.

Yeah, and I thought about that when I was making the post, but still… I often wonder, even in summer, if it’s actually easier to use those things than break your rod down and put it inside the vehicle. But then no one would know you fly fish.

I wonder if fish can taste the mag chloride. And do they like it?

I don’t fish, but my FIL has a rod setup inside his SUV so that he can carry them without breaking them down, so I guess there’s a benefit there.

Also, my neighbor was out fishing yesterday, but TBF there’s not actually snow in Tahoe yet…

As I once told a mag who was contemplating buying one, rod vaults are extremely effective way to spend $500 to let everyone know you fly fish.

It takes me ~ 5 minutes to rig a fly rod. Unless you are a guide hauling clients, there is no reason for them.

I can fit assembled 9’ and 9’6” rods inside my outback without a problem. Two people and four assembled rods might get a little messy though.

People know I fly fish because I have a sticker on the back window that sez “I suck at fly fishing”

I saw a Nissan GOTOS rig today with the biggest, baddest snorkel I've ever seen. On the Driver's side. WTAF?!?!? That thing blocks more view than a 4x8 sheet of plywood. It made the LandRover one look inadequate. I couldn't get a pic. That Nissan definitely had a decent score with all the other shit.

This belongs here because of the role of AMC and how they marketed the Jeep to people who didn't need Jeeps to go to the grocery store. https://slate.com/business/2023/12/c...fety-risk.html

Just try convincing any truck or suv owner that their vehicle is dangerous to themselves and other road users, though. They all seem to think that they "need" their truck. Even in our own "trucks" thread there are endless examples of people who buy full-sized trucks to carry their kids and occasionally pull a raft trailer or some bullshit.

"Although today’s pickups—like SUVs—are typically used as passenger cars, the federal government has maintained the separate, looser “light truck” fuel economy designation. And yet, for many owners, the truck bed itself functions like a plume of peacock feathers—attractive, and mostly for show."

Saw a set-up like this in the wild and thought "seems like a bad idea". He didn't even have much else on the other usual spots: rear, roof.

I backed into a car with our SUV a while back. I can't even tell which part of our rig dented the car. My insurance company wanted to repair our vehicle too and I couldn't show them anything needing repair. The cascading events that led to the "accident" were stupid and ultimately a prime example of "no good deed goes unpunished". I hate the parking garage at the Rideau Center in Ottawa. And I'm still not a big fan of the Toyota Highlander with it's huge blindspots. Even the backup camera has a blindspot.

That garage under the Rideau Center sucks. Has for my whole life.

You could park a block or two away in Byward Market, maybe pick up a Beaver Tail for the walk to the mall.

Ya, there's a public garage in spitting distance of the mall exit we used to get to Byward Market. We parked in said Byward public garage last September. The elevators and stairwells reaked of piss. So we gave the mall a try. Fucking hell.

Oh yeah, I was thinking surface parking in Byward. The garages absolutely smell of piss.

Maybe just park in front of Parliament next time. They let you do that for a pretty long time…
