Legends, both living and past, have long descended on Olympic Valley - home of Palisades Tahoe. Renown ski filmmaker, Scott Gaffney remembers those that came before - from Scot Schmidt and Greg Stump, to Warren Miller before that. The presence and influence of these legends live on today and a whole new generation of athletes are sharing their passion for the place.

Btw, skiing now with a donjoy custom brace (only 2 days so far) and doing ok. No acl and damaged medial meniscus and mcl.
My Ortho apt is day after tomorrow. I skied pretty hard on Thursday and felt really good. The more locked in and flexed I am, the better. We'll see what the doctor has to say. My knee makes some really nasty noises and pops/locks. Loud enough that my 6 year old asked "was that your knee?" when I was warming up and stretching on Thursday.

Incessant kicking of the can down the road with the models this season. Post Xmas was supposed to be pow pow and now we’re looking at Jan 5-8 for the next promising sequence.

Kinda typical El Nino start to the season from what i remember, no? We'd be looking pretty good if these previous storms had been cold.

There’s an acl thread. Mofro has encouragement about skiing on damaged knees with proper external bracing and appropriately strong stabilizing muscles. For me, skiing with engaged upper legs muscles seems to keep things aligned in my knee and in a good place. Landing jumps (to flat) with both heels down has been a bad idea. It took me multiple repeated reinjuries to learn that lesson, but jump turns and airtime in active turns (landing tele) have been fine.

SB was skiing fun yesterday. More terrain, including disney, opened yesterday. Fun and challenging snow conditions, ranging from fairy nice groomer zoomers to powda (Donny style) to break through crust to mix of brush, hardpack, and powda all in a single turn.

HAHA, i had to share. it's pretty good if not entirely accurate

Oh, don't even get me started on the parking reservation system at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley!
It's like they took a simple task, parking your car, and turned it into a convoluted nightmare. I mean, who thought it was a brilliant idea to make people reserve a parking spot in advance, just to enjoy a day on the slopes?

First of all, it's a ski resort, not a high-security government facility. Why do I need to plan my parking situation like I'm orchestrating a military operation?
It's supposed to be a leisure activity, not a logistical nightmare. I want to focus on perfecting my turns on the mountain, not stress over whether I remembered to book my parking spot weeks in advance.

And let's talk about the user experience. The reservation system is clunky and outdated. It's like they hired a team of IT professionals from the early 2000s to design it.
I feel like I need a PhD just to navigate through the website and figure out how to reserve a parking spot without accidentally signing up for a snowboarding class in Japan.

And don't even get me started on the limited availability of parking spots. It's like winning the lottery to secure a spot close to the base.
If you don't act like a ninja and book the moment reservations open, you're stuck parking in Narnia and hiking a mile to get to the slopes.
I paid good money for this ski pass; the least they could do is guarantee me a decent parking spot.

It's not just inconvenient; it's an insult to the spirit of skiing and snowboarding.
I miss the days when you could just show up, park your car, and hit the slopes without feeling like you needed a degree in astrophysics to figure out the parking situation.
Palisades Tahoe, let's get back to the basics and make skiing enjoyable again, starting with a simpler, more user-friendly parking system!

Why hasn’t some enterprising dental lawyer filed a lawsuit on the parking mess! Some esquire out there must have an itchy pen finger ready to file some bother

I’ve been logging a lotta laps on the bunny hill attempting to improve my 1-ski skiing so far this season. Getting smoked by 9 y/o’s is humbling…

And the tree skiing has been spicy fun, especially if you like obstacle avoidance technical skiing…

May all youse skidiots have mirth and merriment saturating whichever holiday festivities you participate in!

Once it finally snows it'll only be a matter of time. They sold passes before announcing the reservation system / paid parking. Not to mention precedent has already been set with the Northstar suit. Ikon pass holders will eventually get like $15 each and we'll collectively shrug our shoulders.

Hey look, there's snow in the forecast about 10 days out....... again.

If I'm not mistaken, there's verbiage in your Ikon contract permitting them to charge for parking.

They can make the argument that there are a limited number of parking spots, that on most weekends and holidays they fill up, and that being able to make free reservations is a convenience for passholders since they won't have to get on the road at 6a to be sure of getting a spot. So the reservation system doesn't deny parking to any more people than before and with most reservations being free--unlike the Northstar lawsuit--there's no financial hit. Being able to make a paid reservation in advance is similarly a convenience for people who have firm plans to ski a particular weekend and holiday--a small price to pay to be certain of having a spot to park when you book lodging.

If the sytem works smoothly--a big if--people might appreciate avoiding the mad scramble to get out the door early and being stuck in a traffic jam from Truckee or NT and the resorts.

Me--if I ski on weekends it will be 10 minutes up the road at SB.

Actually seems like first rule is never mention just how unnecessarily tall/wide/long most bloated trucks and suvs are lately...

Snowboard tracks, no less. The resort has been great the last two days. Empty. I love blackout days.

Ortho confirmed torn meniscus yesterday, so multiple days in a row will be painful this year. He told me to keep skiing and scope it when I have two weeks to recover. Better than it could have been, for sure. Ibuprofen, bicycle, ice, heat, rest.

Maybe never at this rate....Kidding. I'm still hopeful. This isn't our first rodeo with a really slow start.

Looks like it was a snowboarder injury on Red lake peak after triggering a avalanche

Summit ran today--only Alpine Bowl open. Some nice snow at the top. Access to the lift was by the Roundhouse runout which was a little scary with lots of beginners and lots of people trying to carry speed to get back uphill to Summit. Patrol was trying to slow people down with little success. A few runs were enough for me.

I can remember conditions this thin in years past but never this limited manmade snow this late in Dec.

I didn't see anything on the SAC link.
