Gad 2 opening this morning was great- god bless quiet, low sun angle days. Dalton's was all over the place but got to whack a few good turns in there. Getting off the tram and turning onto the traverse alone had me second guessing but I got what I expected.

Groomers are edgeable and fast everywhere.

In the spirit of Tgapp’s fartbag, here’s a lame pic from last weekend. Oldest and I will be at Snowbird on Sunday, look for the long flowing hair.

Thursday I fell on the cat track at the top of Powderhorn at Solitude and dislocated my shoulder and broke a small chunk off the top of my humerus. I managed to ski down to the bottom where Solitude ski patrol got involved. Solitude was kind enough to drive me to the Brighton Medical Clinic. It took 4 people to get my shoulder back into the socket. I experienced incredible pain until my shoulder was put back in place.

I am extremely grateful to the Solitude guy who drove me to Brighton Clinic and stayed with me until my shoulder was reset. I was not smart enough to get his name. Likely he was a patroller but I am not certain. I recognize that this would not have happened without the consent of Solitude management at some level.

I am also very grateful to Robbie, Dave, Lisa and Eden at the Brighton Clinic for their care and successful resetting of my shoulder.

I rode the bus to Solitude. If I would have had to go to an emergency room in the valley I would have experienced pain beyond description. It would have been hours before I was seen by medical staff and possibly an ambulance would have been required. I am guessing an ambulance ride costs $5k? This may have been the worst sustained pain I have ever experienced and it continued to get worse with time.

Been there and agree. Feels like someone put a softball in your armpit and is squeezing your arm against your rib cage. Miserable. I did mine during a hockey game. Got it back in on the bench and only missed a shift, until while back on the ice I lifted my arm above my head to stretch and it fell out again, only this time nobody could get it back in… until I was at St Mark’s about 90 minutes later. Almost orgasmic once it get back in…

Hang in there - wait until you see the bruising…

Ahh man I feel ya, absolutely brutal. I had a primary dislocation of my left shoulder while skiing the Deseret twin couloirs, and that was an unbearable amount of pain. Getting that back in my shoulder (which happened about 9 hours post dislocation) was like a light switch where the pain magically flipped off. The fact that you got that reset so quickly is unbelievably lucky.

Good luck with recovery, you got this. LMK if you need PT or Ortho reccs. Happy to help however possible.

Thanks for the head's up TFW! Totally missed this recontouring over the summer and avoided Sleepy Hollow on Sunday when I made my inaugural visit to Supreme. Made up for it yesterday! Was in the sun and ripping. Couldn't resist lapping until the shadows pushed me over to Sunspot and West Rust..Click image for larger version.

Haha I pulled and crimped my first cat6 cable this week and was very proud of myself. That first crimp probably took me an hour. And then I realized I forgot the jacket boot cover thing...

Seeking recommendations on where my girlfriend and I can park and access both Nordic and actual fun skiing(touring or alpine)? My gf isn’t skiing downhill anymore but it’d be nice to not have to drive into the hills separately to do our thing.

I seem to remember Snowbasin having XC trails, but I see zero reference to Nordic on their website. Can anyone confirm they’re still grooming up there?

what you want is the Ogden Nordic ski trail, the Cutler trailhead

it's still a little bony - we need another storm - but that's got both touring and Nordic skiing at the same trailhead

there is no Nordic to speak of at Basin

pm me if you need more beta

Forgot to post this last week during the traffic discussion. Had to do a down/up BCC during the storm and was two cars behind the plow which got a leeeettle too close to this USFS truck. a stark reminder of the random dangers of parking along the highway! Edit to add that no, homie was not inside the vehicle at time of strafing.

Like tgapp said, Ogden Nordic has the goods right now for XC, and there's some very nice BC out of there too, the BC indeed being bony at the moment (but I saw people getting out there anyway, as of yesterday).

"Ogden Nordic" on Google Maps takes you to the main XC trailhead. For the best backcountry trailhead, go backwards 1.0 mile from there, and instead of turning left for the main trailhead, go straight for 1.6 miles. Trail passes can be purchased online. Technically, you're supposed to have a "backcountry" trail pass to pass over the mile of groomed trail to get to the Cutler Ridge area (where most people head up from out of this area), but I don't think many BC-bound folks bother, and from what I've seen they don't check at that trailhead (but if you want to contribute, it's a good thing to do; the place is volunteer-run).

Here's what Og Nordic looked like yesterday:

Here are some other suggestions near the SL valley:

Solitude has Nordic skiing, can be accessed from the village or Brighton. Better to start at Brighton for Nordic skiing imo.

They groom some loops at spruces, which is also a good touring trailhead.

The PC golf course (Nordic skiing) goes right by the first time lot at PCMR. But you’d probably want to drop her off at the clubhouse and then have her make her way to the PCMR base.

Willow creek (Nordic skiing) is right across the highway from the canyons base lot.

Alta also grooms some trails around their base and the summer road for Nordic skiing

Things are getting firm at Alta, but the kids found some soft turns eventually. The forecast is looking a little grim though.

Fun day skiing with SFB and Pam, I’m still working into shape but getting there. I can’t keep up with Jimmy but it was fun trying. Things were happening too fast for pics, but fun was had.
