I try hard to hide my asshole-ness but I often fail miserably. I think the comments such as "no matter what you do there's always a danger" or "sounds like they did everything right" or "sometimes you just gotta send it" etc. made me angry and dislike humans a little more than my regular levels.

we do and thanks for the well-wishes. wishing a good winter out your way as well.
yup powder seemed really irresponsible applauding a very high-consequence run down a very bony chute...and encouraging influence-prone readers into thinking it's in - in november.
i can't imagine the wearer of go-pro would have skied that sans video capture and platforming for the world to see/"look at me"

it would suck if he left a toe in climbing mode.
Would not have been surprising if he did given how spicy it was there
He said somewhere that they were tectons, and weren’t locked out.
Whether that’s true or not is a different question

I used to go up there in the 80s and a few times since then. I made some poor choices and once broke the top of my humerus on the rocks between upper and lower Chute (forgot to crank up the Look N99s) fortunately my pack was ready to go and collar bone was ok, driving back to beantown with 4sp ‘75 2002 was a minor bitch.
Not Without Peril is a great book on a century and a half of fuck ups up there. IIRC the common thread was hubris. People sticking to their plan regardless of changing conditions, inability or unwillingness to adapt or turn the fuck around. It’s always sad when someone dies pursuing our passion. I agree that the ease with which one can document and share crazy shit contributes to people doing more crazy shit, often without the wits or chops to do it.

tomorrow could still be good in far northern vermont.
on a lesser note, I had a great day today at Stratton, top to bottom and along two upper lifts, just endless fast and firm often with no one else in sight
Does anyone know if when Pico reopens tomorrow they will have their chair running to the top

+1 on both previous posts.
Read it over the summer. A great reminder of the humility we should have when going in the mountains and how much it can affect others if shit does go wrong.
Headed out for hot laps last night. Indeed fast and firm and no one around. Good times!

Got me and Ikon, Indy, and winterized Transit.
Seems like you all are having a winter worth skiing the east...
Haven't skied the east since '76 when I moved to Salt Lake.
Love to trade some driveway parking and skiing with mags for a spot in my driveway and / or house a mile up the LCC and some local mags to ski with.
Won't comment on the Mt. Washington lemmings.

Yeah our Winter is about to enter the first suck stage. If serious I can help you out with places to park at Black Mountain of Maine, Saddleback and sugarloaf. Nothing special as everyone can, but I can at least point you in the right direction at each place. Would be cool to share turnsif you come East, but all of us we wondering why?
How can one prove that dog is man's best friend?
Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of the car.
Open it in three hours.
Who's happy to see you?
Does that answer the why?
