Definitely fair to imply most of us have H1's with mounted machineguns we want to rev to the limit and show off versus just wanting to get up the canyon as fast as possible on an average day.

The reality is most people don't need either of those things.

If climate science is right (I'm no scientist and I don't care to say it is or it isn't) the private ski area model is going to explode for places that receive enough snow and cold weather to be open regularly. Regular people aren't going to be able to afford skiing anymore.

With the mega pass affect more and more people with money will be looking for these private areas to get away from the masses and long lift lines. Real estate and membership fees will be plenty to keep these places afloat.

Let me repeat, The average skier doesn't care to have 500 inches of snow a year and scary steep terrain, they like sunshine and groomers. Powder Mountain can deliver these things in spades.

A lot of Utah skiers are seriously spoiled and out of touch with what most people deem as an acceptable skiing product.

This is the future. I fucking guarantee it.
That's a great point. Nobody travels to Utah to ski, which proves that nobody cares about snowfall and terrain.

People definitely travel to Utah to ski but statistically it's not as popular as you think it is

That's just one silly social media list but there's plenty of sources to see the numbers at.

And our desire to drive ourselves to go ski probably outweighs our environmental concerns eh? I'm not lying, I love driving myself to go ski at our mountain. I probably wouldn't go unless there's a really convenient and more affordable option.

I'll disengage now because I have a bad history of arguing on the internet but I don't think a blog post from 2018 proves your point

I do prefer driving but it's hard to buy that improving LCCs environment is the main rationale or clear benefit of the gondola. As with most huge projects, big $ will probably benefit most and the local community will be adversely affected. It's also hard to quantify what this would really mean since many advocating for these sort of big projects often misrepresent considerations and ignore disadvantages.

Intentionally multiplying the amount of people recreating in LCC as much as possible and turning it into PC2 is a bigger danger than the status quo.

Your posts are exactly what we are trying to avoid to cunt this thread up for another year, by the way. This has been explained and debated indefinitely.

And Stuart is a known clown and is dumb as shit, despite him trying unsuccessfully for years to "find the brains in skiing".

I do agree with your point about Powder Mountain, some mellow uncrowded pow laps is appealing to many people.

I was trying to place him, that idiot from NY that has a perpetual hard on for the gondola from Twitter?

FIFY, no pow required. Giant high-speed turns down Big Emma sure as hell put a smile on my face when conditions allow.

I think we all agree that skiing is fun. period.

Well maybe not RA, he does seem to go out of his way to let everyone know how much he dislikes modern skiing with its crowds and powder panic. Glad he's all in for the gondi tho.

I’ll chime into the junk show.
The pow mow news is sad. But as long as it’s still public it’s worth more to me than a super packed resort. I’ve had fun there since we got pulled behind snowcats for $7

I’m ok with gondola as long as the resort pays for it why should taxpayers pay for a thing that only benefits people that go there when I can already go there. Well on some days I can get there

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Haha! I've been at it for a long time. It's pretty lame these days at the popular places and rope drop frenzies are super dumb but I'll try to keep that to myself unless I feel like kicking the hornets nest a little. *winks an eye at ya

Many subscribers with only a vague knowledge of the Gondola would read that and go "he made some good points". The guy actually made a lot of dumb points, and the problem is that he's not a journalist who has an editor to tell him he's a smug clown and to stop spraying.

    Gotta weigh in here sometime.
    Guess it's now.
RA has an early point that has merit.
In ski country, like yurp, an aerial conveyor up the LCC and BCC woulda been built a long time ago.
Good reasons are too many to list.
Problem is that we like our "wilderness" a little too much this side of the pond.
Anyone who rides a gondi up the LCC will swear it was the most beautiful lift ride of their life.
And way less stress than peein in a beer bottle in a 3 hour line getting out on a powder day.
Problem I got with the concept is that they got the cart afore the horse.
Ctec says their lift will move 4,500 people and hour, not the 1,200 advertised
    Those numbers work for me...
Not enough parking by the freeway, and no talk of shuttling to the gondi base.
Those numbers don't work for me...
Also shouldn't be prohibitively expensive for obvious reasons.
The canyon still needs the proposed snowsheds cause the road will always be essential.

To satisfy everyone bring the gondi outta Summit County where all the hotels and eateries are, and 30% of LCC bald tire traffic emanates from.
It would hit the head of BCC on the way helping both canyons.
Same length as the LCC gondi.
Don't think many folks would have a problem with a lift over Guardsman's and Twin Lakes Pass...
Falls on deaf ears and I've pushed this concept for years...
Problem is alla Summit County is private land and try and talk Vail into the above...

I just went down the rabbit hole looking for a post from 20 years ago where I asked the same thing. Except it wasn’t Wasatch Peaks, just Dick and Earls private land.

weren't you the one who told me a story about a guy who hiked up the front side of Thurston, dropped into the upper bowl, and was confronted by a cameraman who photographed him and reported him to the sheriff?

they seem like real nice folks up there, it'd be a shame if something happened to all their fancy equipment.
