Today was magic! Nordkette decided to open the magic carpet : ) yeah
Skiers were allowed on section one.
Safed me 1000hm vert. They did not publish the info, so out off pure luck. Three skiers were in the 9 o’clock bin. Was a strange feeling flying over two parties already 2/3 up the way breaking trail on 20cm fresh from last night.

I got three laps in today. 1200hm

Seeing all this is really making me think of heading over to Austria for a couple of weeks in the second half of January! Especially since we can barely ski at home right now...😔

Was thinking that basing out of Landeck would allow us to chase snow kind of anywhere from Soelden to Silvretta and be pretty close to Ski Arlberg. Does that make sense?

Also wondering if there are any ski cards I'm nor seeing in my research. I see lots of wicked value regional season passes, but the math doesn't quite work out for a 15 or 16 day trip. Is there anything like the ski a la carte card in France that gives you a discount each day at a wide a variety of hills in that region? Searched, but couldn't find anything like that online.

Thanks! And keep the stoke coming for those of us with no snow!

I turn 50 this year, my buddy and I are flying into Zurich....couple days out of Desentis/Andermatt, then to Lenzerheide/St. Moritz? depending on weather, then last four nights in Landeck for Ischgl, St. Anton, Serfaus? Can't wait. All this new snow has me amped up!!!

So yes, Landeck for the win! We rented a two bedroom apartment there for four nights for $150, do it!

That's a way better price than what I've seen for Landeck! I mean, what I've seen isn't outrageous, but that's super cheap! Guess you'll need that price after St Moritz!🤣

For cheaper digs in St. Mo, try Samedan. It's a little walk up the hill, but there's the https://www.palazzo-mysanus.ch/ as well as https://www.laagers.ch/ .

Samedan is central for getting to Diavolezza/Lagarlb as well as Corvatsch.

Looks like no Diavolezza tram until Dec 20 so I can't consider St Moritz for the trip I'm thinking about Dec 9-14.

How is snow coverage so far in St Anton? I know the resort doesn't open until Dec 1 I assume snowfall in line with others in the area. Flights are overall agreeable and hotels that early are very reasonable. I think I can swing flight, 4 nights, 4 days lift tickets for around $1000.

French Alps just look to difficult to get to and Zurich is by far the easiest place to fly to.

I think I am coming to this party. Can you use public transportation in Landeck to access all the areas?

More snow, and some rain, incoming. More than a Meter in France 40-60 in northern switz/arlberg.
    Somewhere in between in valais.

Edit: not considering St. Moritz? Corvatsch has much better skiing than the diavolezza anyway! And less wind. The Pass is always soo windy.
Btw. St. Moritz should get 70-100cm out of this storm as well.

Best season start over here in good ol Europe in ages...

Happy you all are getting it. We had it good early last year and it feels so good.

Nordkette looks like fxgking Alaska in those pics. That place is so rad. Got to ride one of those top lines in slush and a T-shirt, would kill for what twats getting.

Next time. Its my #1 bucket list place.

I think St Anton has the easiest trains. The flight times are good but its still 5/6 days of travel for 3 days to ski if I leave Sat night and return on Thurs night. Hotels that are always sold out walk to the lift are 60 EU/night and I should get a taste of that apres even early season midweek.

Will ask for the time off tomorrow then book.

I’ll be in L4V for Jan to early April too, Verbier based. Always happy to make turns with maggots. Pretty disappointed to be missing the early season though!

    Hello everyone,
First of all, a big thank you to everybody on this thread for providing so much useful information and tips for almost 10 years now!

I have a question regarding maps : does anybody here know where i can find an online Map or App that show all the restricted Wildlife/Forbidden zones in Austria? Something similar to Switzerland's maps?

Any info would be very appreciated. Enjoy the great start to the season.
I'm Hoping to be here starting January.

    Cheers

We’ve got snow!!! Wow, we were supposed to be the area that would get the least snow. Forecast gave us 9 cm yesterday… well we have well over 40cm and it’s studs dumping. Adding to the old snow…. We can be happy

thank you ,hochimst looks great, about 1000m of lift served. I guess it is ok to tour off the top of the lift to all those peaks shown on their trail map. Is a south east aspect ok there for skiing. That place seems to be what I am looking for. Small ski area with good touring around. I will study your link for the bus information. I found Rome2Rio which had transportation info. Looked like Soelden was a long public transport from Landeck. So far I have a Google map of Europe with a bunch of pins, trying to figure out how it all goes together. Appreciate your photos, got me going.
