Bought from them over a decade ago. The selection was pretty middle of the road. Not a ton of "platinum editions" nor a bunch of "se's." They were no-haggle, but tried to nickle and dime us with every little fucking thing they could and got shitty when we had our own financing in place. The vehicle only had 9,000 miles on it, so the couple of things it needed were covered under warranty buy the local Jeep dealership so I never had to go back.

TL;DR - 5/10. No haggle on the price of the vehicle left them plenty of time to haggle about all the other shitty fees.

I've used Carmax for window shopping - easy to sit in or test drive a lot of different brands.

Most vehicles I've looked at at Carmax have been in rough shape for the age/ price/ mileage. Carmax pricing is high, so they should be in damn fine near-excellent condition.... not "18 months of daily rental car usage" condition.

    I wouldn't buy from them.

Well that sucks. Kind of defeats the point of their whole sales pitch they've given me before about being a no-haggle price kind of place. Do they get their managers in on the action to tell you about the benefits of TruCoat?

Exactly!!! And often times the most rental car type of inventory too. A beat up 3 year old Dodge Journey for 30K? How about GFY! Especially after knowing how obscenely bad they can lowball people trading in. But you're right though. I'd actually be ok with the higher pricing IF their cars reflected conditions that could command that. I've not been impressed overall.

IIRC, it was mostly financial type "upgrades." I don't think they had the resources to apply the undercoating and PPF type "upgrades." When they got shitty about using my own financing I think I realized they were a bank masquerading as a used car lot. Perhaps they make their margin on their inflated prices and by locking you into a shit loan.

The one in SLC is at my exit, I drive by it every day on my way home from work. The vehicles on the lot are usually pretty uninspiring. There's usually a couple of halo cars surrounded by the middle of the pack stuff. A sea of Ford Edges.

Danno's shopping for an uninspiring car?

Perhaps we can talk him into this instead:

I don't think you can fit 5 telemarkers in a RS3. So maybe its not a fit.

Wow. Really drives the point home about how much a ripoff Carmax really can be. Hmmm.... Let's see here. Should I get a 5 year old Audi with an expired (or soon to be expired warranty) for $60K (oh, I'm sorry, $59,998 rather), or a BRAND NEW 2024 for $61.7K. Well, golly gee, mister. That's a tough one! LMAO. Friggin' Carmax. This is exactly why I hate those guys.

Can confirm, the back seat only has two seatbelts. The rear seats do fold up the sides pretty easily, but removing them completely was a huge PITA.

Bingo! Their financing HAS to be their bread and butter for sure.

Lol yup!!! Every time I've walked their lots, this has been precisely how it is.

Even though it's grossly overpriced, I imagine this is one of those halo cars that get's people clicking around the site before they settle on a Honda Pilot.

Can we please focus on getting Danno a new used car and not get sidetracked here? Preferably something exciting but something that fits his needs as well.

Danno, can you give us a list of your criteria?

Looking for a Sequoia. Probably around $30k, which puts me in the range of, say, a 2016 Limited with 100k miles.

Can't speak to Sequoias, but we run a fleet of about 30ish Tahoes most are between 100K and 200K. They're pretty bulletproof. They get ridden hard and put up wet by a bunch of mouth breathers who have zero mechanical sympathies and probably couldn't change their own flat tire.

Then in the grand TGR tradition, we're going to ignore that specific request, and proceed to point you towards cars that fit none of that description. I hope you enjoy.

    Perhaps a mid-00's Mazda MX-5 with a hard top?

I would expect nothing less. Timberridge is about to recommend a Chevy Aztec, I believe.

How about a station wagon with a fukin' V8 motor?

This one is down the road from me so I can check it out if you want but you're going to have to act fast.

It's also ~$12,000 less than your budget, so practically a no brainer.
