    Moving from Steamboat to Bellingham

Time for something new - a deteriorating living situation (loud neighbors above me with a 6 month old baby), depressing lack of single women, and just a general need for a life change has me looking towards to the northwest (plus I have more family and friends up there). I have the option to do it now before winter (been in Colorado for 12 years, skiing Aspen and Steamboat for that entire time), or in the spring, after one last ski season. I know winters in the PNW can be dark and wet, but the prospect of skiing Baker / Whistler / Crystal / Alpental / Revelstoke has me very intrigued.

    What would you do?

Also is UHaul + tow car really the best way to make a move like this? Priced one out and $2k seems steep but that might just be the price to play.

If access to world class skiing is important, have you considered moving to Londonderry, VT?

I don't know what's going on with you in CO because fastfred seems to be doing ok with the women there. Maybe Breck is different idk. But Londonderry has them in spades, and they're eager.

Change is always good. Set sail no matter what. Last year was my first baker experience. Something special about that place. Do it.

Can you deal with rain and gray 8 months a year? Hard to think of ski experience that differ more in the us than Colorado and the pNW, excluding bitcoin vanlife Farley from upstate

    Do it!

Just make sure you have some shoulder season activities/hobbies like MTB, fishing, fentanyl, trail running, etc.

You will for sure notice the decrease in sunlight, probably takes about 5 years to adjust.

Are you aware that bellingham is 90 minutes (on dry roads) from the closest skiing (baker)? I feel like people not from the area dont really grasp that and think Bellingham to Baker is the same as Bend to Bachelor. Do you work from home, or do you need to be close to a population center to make a living?

Do it now. Otherwise youll just be 6months older when you. And honestly, spring into early summer is the shitty season around here, IMO, because youve already had 6months of cold, gray, wet and you look up in April and realize you have another 2 months of it to go.

Yeah that's a tough one that I'm not totally sure about. I've spent some Octobers and Novembers up there with my fam/friends, and it's dreary for sure. But we just MTBed in the rain cause apparently that's what you do.

If you haven't done it yet, it's a good excuse to get rid of the Danny Masterson sunshade.

Yeah I realize it's a bit of a downgrade wrt skiing access and I'll need to work harder for it (or buy a van or something). I work remotely.

It's def dank and dark. And baker is def 90 min from bham.

Id vote for a more sunny dry local. Taos. W a wolf creek pass as well.

On a positive note dunfree is close to bham. He's an absolute ray of sunshine. So their is that.

Yeah - and if you don't *mind* mt biking in the rain day in and day out, it might just work for you!

IMO, in your situation where single ladies are a priority, you should be in the seattle area. If you lived in Renton, youre commute to ski at Crystal would be about the same or shorter than bham-baker, youd have the option to night ski at snoqualmie 45 mins away, and youd have access to a MUCH wider dating pool. Prices would be about the same as Bham too. Also, youd be 10 minutes from Seatac for easy flights, where in Bham your only options are regional flights or driving a few hours to a real airport.

Taos is an excellent suggestion, depending on how important a "depressing lack of single women" is to the OP. Kinda also depends on whether he's an old, crusty MF'er like the rest of us or a young buck.

IDK what your income level is but I would choose Bend over Bellingham 1000 times out a 1000 if you can afford the living expense delta. Much more sun, closer to skiing and lots of other outdoor activities. If you can deal with the grey factor Bellingham is a cool place but the drive to Baker is not exactly around the corner. You should price out a pods for moving your stuff compared to uhaul.
