We lived in Western MA when we were looking at moving to Bellingham. I think that would have been an OK transition. Instead we moved to southern Nevada. I think the transition would be notably harder.

    The Puget Sound is over.

    Try Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint

    Or Ogden.

You mentioned single and a 6 month old baby like back to back. Is that baby yours or the noise violation? If yours, is the baby mama around and are you cool with not seeing said baby, because that is a fucking haul.

That said, I applaud your initiative to GTFO out a ski town if it isn't 100% positive for your mental health, pending answer to baby above.

I took "(loud neighbors above me with a 6 month old baby)" to mean that the neighbors had the baby.

I've never skied Baker and am hoping it has coverage for the first weekend in December have a tradeshow in Seattle I plan to attend.

I'd think the best part of Bellingham would be hopping on a train and going out in Vancouver for cheap on the loon. Seattle would be local city #2. I LOVE Vancouver.

Its the winter there isn't much sunlight anyways who cares if its cloudy.

The few times we've moved long distance, we used ABF upack. They drop off a semi trailer and you load your stuff in the back packed as efficiently as possible. They supply a bulkhead that closes off your stuff. they pick it up and load the rest of the trailer with freight and deliver to your destination. You only pay for the space you use (per linear foot). They drop it off at your destination and you unload it. It's worked great for us both times and the cost was similar if not less than a one-way u-haul rental and you don't have to drive the shitty truck across the country.

^^Or perhaps inherently unstable people move to ski towns, and you're in the best and safest place you could possibly be from a societal standpoint short of being institutionalized?

    Think positively.

    Laugh it up, funny boy.

One of my neighbors blew his brains out last spring when the rent went up the same month his dog died. One of my brother's neighbors recently drank himself to death before he was 50.

You know what the Rockies ski towns are called in the psych profession? It's called the suicide belt. The suicide rate is 3x national average in the places that supposedly have a great quality of life

    blah blah blah
you don't think I know this shit?

where do you want to really start with this conversation?

but making a blanket assumption that everyone is mentally unstable or we are any different than anywhere else in the country is bullshit

Another vote for Upack - we used it to move from Portland to Spokane in 2022 and it worked great and was cheaper than anything else we looked at - think we paid about $2k to move a 3-bedroom house. If you use Upack, plan ahead for how to use the vertical space. The trailer is 9' tall, so if you can stack it tall, you save money - they bill on length. (get your mind out of the gutter)

As far as moving Steamboat to Bellingham, you should sublet your apartment for a few months this winter and go to Bellingham and see how you like it. I like Bellingham and tried to move there before throwing in the towel and moving to Spokane, but not sure how it would stack up vs. Steamboat.

Nobody really wants to have a conversation with you because, as you so often demonstrate, you are a cynical asshole who doesn't give a damn about anybody else. You take a well meaning comment not directed to you and make it all about yourself, as usual.

For a guy who's been around for 30 years, I bet you don't have a lot a friends.

I guess I should have just asked you to please fuck off and die already, ya NIMBY piece of old shit., but fuck me I had to try to quote some actual statistics.

Back on topic, OP, have you considered the benefits of fractional ownership?

That way you don't have to commit to any one particular town, but many.

New gondy all the way to the top of Sundown. New terrain/lift over in the former OOB area north of Pioneer.

IMO it's much ado about nothing. Should lessen the shitshow at the base a bit. Get people to the top of Sundown/Storm a bit earlier in the morning, so stashes may get tracked out a bit quicker?

    Nah.

Old Beavis is funny. Therein lies Freddies biggest flaw; if you are going to be the relentlessly asshole curmudgeon, you should at least justify your role by being humorous occasionally. Freddies idea of a joke is calling other people idiots.
