Bobby's used car lot and Free Carfax

Any thoughts on the best way to sell a used car these days? I have three vehicles, need two. The logical divestment is the elder. 2012 Volvo XC60 T6 w/ about 132,000. Love this car but should move it vs. absorbing maintenance costs for a car I don’t “need.” Last time I sold a car other than via trade in was in 1998 for $500 cash so sorta clueless on how vehicles move these days via private sale. Craigslist sounds to me like a more dumb idea than exposing my cluelessness via this post.

Goes without saying that private sale via any number of sites.

If it has known issues that can’t be discovered in a 5m test drive that you know are going to blow up and torpedo a major component, sell it to Carmax or KBB. You’ll get what it goes for at auction without much nitpicking that you’d get by trading it in.

Used cars are still relatively stupid pricey so if you have the time, sell it yourself and get the most you can.

    Use Swedespeed too.

Thanks! It runs like a top, but rust is setting in. Just dropped $4k on it, including replacing the catalytic converter and most maintenance already done that is suggested through 150K so it is mechanically on point to my knowledge. Just doesn’t make sense to keep it in the stable with two other reliable vehicles on hand.

    Hmm. Where's the rust? $?

Someone asked what I'm shooting for, ~40 mpg. As much as anything though, I want it to work for at least 3 weeks a month Apparently the 500s don't accomplish that so they're out. The Fit has been my top search so I'll probably stick with that or a 3.

I just sold my Volvo S60. NextDoor is how I sold it and my Trailblazer as well. Sold my Audi on CL. You just never know. With NextDoor, the exposure is low but the people are real. CL is the opposite where you can expect to deal with the majority being the usual scammers, but a few were real so it's worth posting on both. I found my Mercedes on Autotrader FWIW, but private party sales there seem to linger there longer. I sold my S60 pretty fast. Within about a week. And I DEFINITELY got more than I ever could have with a dealer.

Oops - missed this rust question. Showing on both front fenders and mildly near door handles. I am not sure what the underbelly looks like. Price = maybe list it at $8,900 and see what happens. Car is in Burlington VT.

Toyota tax is upfront. Fiat tax comes after purchase and you don’t get that money back.

    Shit I’d rather have a 2008 Matrix than a 2018 Fiat.

Other than body parts the Pontiac Vibe is the same car as the Matrix right? I know they were all AWD, did they have a manual through the whole run?

Not all Matrix (Matrices?) were AWD. No idea about manual options.

And you get to say you Drive Excitement, which is just another opportunity to explain to someone what a Pontiac is.

@benny only a small number of Matrix S were AWD but the Vibe was before the facelift,I just don't remember the last few years.

Bmills, 30 or so cars and I don't think I've had a Pontiac so maybe that's how to avoid the Toyota tax and finally get one before gas cars are over.

The wiki machine says that the AWD siblings only came with the bigger Camry motor and auto tranny. The Matrix is the better car though especially after Pontiac shut down when it got a bunch of modern car stuff.

Heh, I looked for something as simple as a headlight. That took it off the list pretty quick.

If considering entering the Buick family of automobiles, I'd go back a litter farther than m/y 11.

Buick? Talk to me 65 Riviera or ~70 Sportwagon, there are very few since then that I've really appreciated.

Yes I know where my first stop in the Buick catalog would be:

But again we’re talking about our buddy GL - so obviously having some working knowledge of his unique vehicle preferences- I really thought of him taking into account his recent query! A century manual was right up his alley in its unique and depressing qualities!

Oh but I know GL I’m in on the 70 GSX. All time.
You’ll be the first to know when one crosses my bow!
