Just arrived in Italy after being in Copenhagen and Germany.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Good Will Hunting was the first movie I ever saw in a theater in my life. I had my tent staked down in Mammoth, CA, was doing some good ole fashion ice climbing coming from the north east. Ran into all the cohorts of the day, living in vans before van life. I was living with my partner, climbing partner, out of a Honda civic, 4 speed manual. Making my rounds from Yosemight to Jtree up to Lee Vining, and back to Colorado.

I had my tent staked down with 4 ice screws in the public camping area. I'm sure it can't exist anymore, it was "closed for the season" when I got there. A huge storm rolled in and the Bibler was tied to its death but flattened. Nothing to guy it out with. Barren east side desert shit. I slept in that bathroom yes, that bathroom while I could almost feel like I was in a high mountain shelter. The winds and snow plastering, I thought those walls would buckle, then I would hear the hiss coming through that high little window, with the spindrift blasting in like shop vac on rewind.

The next day I dug out the tent, bought 2 Fosters oil cans, and shivering, bought a ticket to a movie. That was the movie. Good Will Hunting.

Who woulda knew, I moved to Boston 2 years later.

And then I grew up proper, and Robin killed himself, and I climbed a shitton of shit, but didn't know shit. What an omen.

Every time I see a Homer rip off it triggers that night in that tent (not saying the picture is, it's amazing actually, and for you haven taken it, more so). And that movie, and what was to become an incredible life for me.

I do recommend Rounders. I treat it as the sequel. But I'm biased.

    Do you remember
    The 21st night of September?
Love was changin' the minds of pretenders
    While chasin' the clouds away
    Our hearts were ringin'
In the key that our souls were singin'
As we danced in the night, remember
How the stars stole the night away, oh, yeah
