Hmm, I haven't had trouble with it but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be thicker.
Here is a quick version that is 1.5mm thicker and adjust the c-bores a bit. I think the handle should still be tall enough, and the bars will be a bit higher off the ski but the templates will still be tall enough too. .zip because it won't let me upload an .stl...

    Printed and assembled.

The recommended brass tube in the link is just barely too small for the latest wintersteiger bits. Will have to fine tune that eventually but will probably just forgo that for now.

Mine was a little too small after cutting, but if I ran a drill bit through it to debur the interior then my ski drill bits fit (can't remember what brand they are though)

I used a circular pipe cutter too and didnt consider that maybe the pipe is compressed. Ran a 5/16" drill bit through it last night but still too tight. Am now considering the purchase of a dremel to help widen these tubes a little.

    Looks good!

All of my bits are wintersteiger and they fit but there is some variation in size. The smallest measures at 7.91mm and the largest at 7.96mm shank.
The tube should be very slightly larger than 8mm, so if your bits are have the same variation but on the bigger side I can see them binding.
I assume you have tried and the bits don't fit through the tube before any burr from cutting is added or anything like that? If you use a tube cutter with the rolling disk rather than a bandsaw, the burr will be quite large.

That said, the tubes are really not necessary and the plastic template will last quite a few uses. If you have a printer there is not much need cause you can just make another template if one wears out. I like the sleeves cause they make it seem more polished and I've made quite a few of these for people that aren't able to print their own, so in those cases its kinda nice to know the templates will last.

If you decide not to use the tube, you should be able to easily modify the SCAD to spit you out a file for whatever hole size you want. Or if you give me the diameter you want, I can upload cad files for all of the templates at that hole size. I have a python script that will export .stl's for all of the templates in my library, so its a lot quicker unless you are just looking at one or two bindings.
Getting the size right takes a little trial and error though, and depends a lot on how much the filament you are using shrinks and how dialed in your printer is.

Yeah measure your bits and if you can see if it will fit in an uncut end of the original tube.
You can try a countersink tool at each end also to remove the burr if that's the issue.

Also if you just need a few, I have a a bunch cut - I can send a few if its not working.

Thanks for the offer, got them wide enough by just running the drill bit through it and wiggling it around a little to take off some material from inside. Now just need to source some longer M5 screws to lock the centering mechanism but the small clamps work fine for now. One successful mount down, next to try some tech binders.

Very impressed so far with the simplicity and rigidness of the design. Thanks again!

    Glad its working for you!

Which tech bindings are you doing? I've been trying to keep track of which templates have actually been mounted with.

Thanks. I don't know any of the Salomon or Marker tech bindings have been mounted with so take care.
The layouts are from verified paper templates, so shouldn't be any issues unless I made a mistake entering numbers (and its easy to check with the little pin part if you want or by eye). The heel and pin lines aren't always so clear though. Again should be fine, but I only have so many bindings I can personally check

I did Alpinists with it this winter with no problems if you are keeping track.

    Thanks!

Here is my list that I know people have mounted with:
    Alpine:
    • Look Pivot
    • Look SPX
    • Tyrolia Attack
    • Salomon STH2
    • Salomon Warden 11
    • Salomon Warden 13

    Tech:
    • ATK (all except maybe the non-adjustable trofeo or similar heel)
    • Dynafit radical/speed radical (not 2.0)
    • Dynafit vertical ST
    • Marker Aplinist

I don't really suspect there are any problems with any of the ones that I can't confirm have been used, but I am a little more wary of the tech bindings especially. And there is a decent chance they have been used but I just don't know about it.

    Printing for mags

Still printing for mags? I'd be interested in jig, hardware (other than 8020 bars, I'll source them myself), and a head/toe Marker Mseries template for junior bindings. (attached is paper template). Of course, I'm happy to CAD up the Marker drill pattern from your scad files.

Shipping would be to my Dad's house in Bozeman. I'll send a PM along as well.

On nice! I sent that to Jason before all the stuff with Wildsnow. I hadn't read the article yet though.
That jig looks pretty crude compared to ones I have made recently.

Also reminds me I wanted to tweak the knobs or housing a bit so the friction lock worked a little better on the centering mechanism.

No, sorry, Shipping international is too expensive/complicated for it to be worth it. You can make one yourself; just find a friend with a printer or at library or something.

I would love a pivot jig. Hard to find lately.

I am happy to make you one if you want, send me a PM if you want. I have been doing $65 per jig + $10/$20 per template + shipping (~$15).
Or you are welcome to make your own, Just a little difficult if you don't have easy access to a printer.

Thanks MottN for doing the work on getting a 22 Designs mounting template. Will hopefully validate that and the G3 in the next week or so.

Thanks for making the jig. It's assembled. Looking forward to trying it out.

I just received my MottN Jig with STH2 plates and it looks amazing. I worked in ski shops full time between 1995 and 2018 and have zero reservations about using this to mount my personal skis.
