Ive said it before and ill say it again, i see no problem with honey bees dying off as long as we can replace them with bumble bees. Infact, the world would be a better place (even considering the exctinction of honey).

Was on a river trip in Idaho in mid August and can say I've never seen so many yellowjackets around food, particularly meat. Couldn't believe no one in our group got stung.

There's an e-trend of people videoing themselves exterminating yellowjacket nests with a cup of gasoline. Could maybe put a bit of gas inside a shop vac and suck them up for larger nests?

I kept bees for years; I only caught one swarm. Walking my yard one eve and there they were, like this video but fewer bees. I slowly started taking hand-fulls and putting them in a paper bag. As soon as I got a hand-full with the queen in it into the bag, the rest of the workers in the bag immediately began fanning their wings upwards to attract the main swarm. Before long, the bulk of them were in the bag, which I then put in an empty hive. Viola, a new hive for me. Very cool experience.

Honey bees are gentle as hell, unless you disturb them.

Timely. A few nights ago I discovered a wasp nest in my garage. They had made tunnels through the brick façade and were living in the wall. It was hectic but I got rid of it successfully. No stings. I've actually never been stung by a wasp or bee in my life.

Those are yellow jackets. I don't know which is more impressive--that you were able to deal with that without getting stung, or that you've never been stung in your life!

Oh yeah, pro tip:

Dawn dish soap and water works about the same as raid on these things. I use about 1/4 cup of soap/gallon of water in a pump sprayer. The only downside is that it doesn't foam up as much as the aerosol stuff, so you need to be accurate and quick, and a maybe a little closer. If you need reassurance just check YouTube--it works very well and has to be more environmentally friendly than raid.

I was being nice and left the Yellowjacket nest in my backyard retaining wall alone for 2 months, they didn’t bother me or sting anyone. Then they started excavating the paving sand and gravel out from the foundation of my wall and ripped out my weed barrier paper. I actually couldn’t believe they were able to do that. Stinging my daughter was the final straw. Nuked them all to hell

They're incredibly destructive. They chewed (or burrowed?) through concrete and brick. Drywall too.

Our schools recently started conservation mowing where they only mow the perimeters and pathways. They’re also going to spread wildflower seeds in the unmowed areas this Fall. This is something I’ve been trying to get away with at the house for years but didn’t have a fancy name like “conservation mowing” to convince the wife.

My kid's school has a few hives in their garden and the older kids make honey with em. Pretty cool and we always get free honey.
