Not sure how they did it but they stuffed at least six screws into the base of my finger. I guess it was pretty shattered. Ive got a bunch of parts to throw on the bike while I’m healing up. Trying to get it street legal.

Let there be light. Never liked the price of the Baja Designs headlights so looked into much cheaper Chinese stuff on Alibaba. Fits perfectly and has no more depth than stock light.

Gonna be nice to have actual light from the light on the KTM not just a smear from a shitty bulb and lens. Even has a DOT label on it. Don't really care but seems like it can take a beating from branches that it will be bashing through

Nice! I ended up getting an Oxbow light for the helmet too. Makes riding in the desert at night under the influence of various hallucinogens so much safer and more enjoyable.

Finally added lights and horn etc needed to make my wr street legal. Now I just gotta wait a month to get it inspected. ugh.

Yeah I need to look into that for my XR. Headlight is so dim I hate riding it after dark. Hopefully there are options for late 90s honda.

If you can't find a straight up headlight, there are a ton of other LED options like ditch lights and light bars that'll work on the motos.

What tire setup do I want for trail riding in CO? Bike is a 250 4-stroke FWIW. Rear is on its way out, front has some time yet.

I'm a kook so riding doubletrack routes and occasional singletrack (40mi on the 770 trails at rampart yesterday, whew!). I expect the balance will shift more and more towards singletrack as I gain experience. Sometimes hitting pavement to access dirt but rarely more than a few miles and very rarely above 50mph.

Might look at the Goldentyre GT333N rear / GT216A "Fatty" front for mostly trail miles w/ the occasional pavement to hit the trails and back. Been happy with mine so far, but might do a rear trials tire next, depending on how the rear holds up. I've got 500 miles on them (plated 350 4-stroke) and the rear has a bunch of life left. Front is in great shape.

Bridgestone Battlecross have treated me well on the front. Tusk DSports are a good budget option if you need a DOT tire.

Look at Moto Z tires. I run them on my 450exc and 990. Hold up very well to pavement rocks whatever.

The Motoz and Goldentire stuff is $$$ compared some other popular options (Shinko, IRC, etc.) Are they really that much better? If the expensive stuff lasts longer it may be worth it to me - changing moto tires seems like it sucks. On that note, I'm running tubes. Is that as dumb on a moto as it is on an mtb?

FYI, motoz makes many different tire treads and compounds (models) depending on your intended usage, preferred riding style and the bike they are going on.

This is like asking what ski to get and somebody giving the answer "Praxis", which of course is the right answer but doesn't help narrow down the choices for the shopper.

The motoz mountain hybrid was very popular in Tahoe when it came first came out.
I'm spooning on a pair of tractionator ITs on a customer's bike next week because that's what he had before and what he was comfortable with.

Lots of people like soft tires these days here in Tahoe. Personally I run Maxxis desert IT's, which are a harder tire, with heavy duty tubes I can run super low pressures. They hook up fine and last a long time for my usage.
I also like the pirelli MT43 which is a totally different style of rear tire, almost a trials hybrid tire. Tons of traction and everything but mud, wore well, but totally different riding style in corners versus a knobbie. With a knobby you can easily steer with the rear tire, with the MT-43 you couldn't, or I couldn't at least.

Unless you have a ton of riding experience on different machines and tires, and are very picky, there really are no bad tires these days that I've seen.

Yo North get a good tire setup ASAP. Dirt biking is expensive just accept it. Every rider I know has a stockpile of tires they tried and didn't get along with. Today I rode some Michelin tires from 2015. Some 90/90 goofy front tire that had good edge hold but bounced offline in the rocks.

This is helpful. Sounds like running tires that are in good shape will be more important than specific patterns, compounds, etc. at this stage when my skills (or lack thereof) are the main limiter.

Man you know me I'm always trying to do expensive sports and eek out some savings on the margins. I've spared no expense on getting good/safe(r) riding gear and have been keeping the bike maintenance tight at least.

I just now got in from a ride from Santa Fe to Taos and back along the High Road. Beautiful ride, but less than a mile from my house on the way back I came across a motorcycle wreck. The guy was basically okay, and the FD ambulance was less than a mile away and was there really quick, but the bike was totaled. A very sober reminder of one’s vulnerability on road bikes.

Good advice. I like the recon. It lasts awhile and hooks up well on everything besides true mudder conditions. Great on slickrock. I don't ride much road though.

That wrecked bike is shite.

Front rubber, shite. Dead tread and high in the center. Couldn't afford a race tire so he burned his in.
Big ass rotor on front looks scarred nicely. Maybe some new pads would've kept him rolling.
