I need to (finally) replace my OEM tires on the Giant Revolt 2 I have... planning on the Maxxis Rambler in a 45..

I'm doing everything on this bike, wondering if I should be looking at the silkshield or exo.

Exo seems to be more than I would need, but I don't know how much 50 grams per tire really matters after I put that much more tread on.

Flats suck, and sidewall cut flats often require that you put in a tube. For general use sidewall protection is not optional, IMO.

Agreed 100%, not worth the grams saved, even on rotating weight, it pains me to say that, but it’s true.

    I’m shopping for a gravel bike. I’m 6’1” so prob 56cm or 58cm (L frame)

Want: Carbon frame, ability for gear mounts on the fork, and accommodate 50mm tires.

Would like to spend $2000 or less.

    Anyone?

Carbon for under 2K.....that's your limitation right there. You can easily get what you want within your budget if you go steel or alu with decent components. Up the budget a bit to get full carbon. Niner RLT Steel fits the bill & has carbon fork, fits up to 50c.

I think the best deal going is Intense's gravel bike through Costco. It was mentioned a few pages back and gets you full carbon with GRX 2x. 45 is the max tire size however from what could find, it comes with 40.

Haven't looked at Fizzari much up until this year, I'm seeing more on the roads. Dang that's a good deal for the Shafer Comp GRX- carbon, fork mounts, and tire clearance up to 50.

wow. that Shafer Comp GRX build is really hard to beat for price. If you consider steel, AL in that price range... take a hard look at Jamis Renegade. The S2 steel fits 50mm tires I think. Buddy is loving his.

I’m looking at a bike in the same price range but having a hard time justifying it with a karate monkey that does everything but comes with weight.

Is Canyon a respected name? I saw a friends canyon mtb frame crack after a weeks worth of use but know all brands can have their issues.

Yes, just don't expect local shops to go out of their way to help with issues with the internet DTC brands. The integrated bar/stem can also make it challenging to change the reach if you need to, but otherwise the grizl seems pretty well-liked.

Anybody here have a Lauf fork? I was considering one for my single speed. I just thought it’d have too little rebound damping.

The map showed this as a class 4 road but clearly it had been abandoned a long time ago.

Instead of hike a bike over downed trees and through the wet slop, we turned around and found some other dirt roads to connect through to our original route.

I have one on my salsa mukluk ti. Great fork, I think it has 63 mm travel It’s the heavier spring force version. I weigh 190.

How is it on road buzz? Small hits I see the value, but I’m curious about road vibrations. Does it damp them noticeably? I’m in chip-seal land.

The fatbike test of interest is refrozen footsteps from people hiking in the snow. That’s like riding washboard on a dirt road. Anyway it works pretty well. Better than I expected.
