Bike Bench Hacks

A pinch flat was the catalyst to firing up bike maintenance and reorganizing my work area. While swapping a couple bikes to new tubeless tires, I rotated my truing stand and drilled holes so I could leverage my T-track already in use for ski vise, bike stand and tons of other project clamping needs.

Needing to secure the wheels to the stand, I 3d printed some cones and wrenches. Some 150mm x 5mm all-thread (skewers)is on the way to complete this handy set up. By resting the tire on the bench corner, made taping, cleaning, airing, etc more efficient:

It's very useful versatile for lots of things. I'd recommend tracks beefy enough for 5/16"/8mm t-bolts or t-nuts. Plus you'll want to add extra screw holes in the track, along with longer screws for the extra rotational forces.

Did you just route out the groove for the track?

Yes, into the 3/4” particle board top which is over a solid 2x8 base.



You could rip plywood (or Melamine, etc) the same depth or deeper than the t-track to build up a bench top to accommodate the track.

Edit: there has been more than a few times over the years where I wished I had installed a double t-track.

You can cut a groove with a circular saw, a guide (or not) and chisel….or add a layer of plywood the depth or greater thickness than the T-track.

Nothing on the level of up above, but I recently moved my small vice to a corner spot on the bench top. Much better! Am finding it getting used much, much more often. So useful.

Very nice setup.
I just installed some T-channel on my toy hauler camper and definitely want to mimic what you've done here.

The factory T-channel hold down system all over the bed of my old Nissan Titan are the biggest thing I miss about that truck.

Check out Rockler and other wood shop tool suppliers and all of the t-track clamping options. For truck racks and other extrusions, there are countless add-ons like these that might be useful when setting up benches or haulers, etc. Clamping the bench stand to the truck rack worked great and I'm working on a bomber connection option vs the quick grip clamps & boat straps.

I got one of those Park stands and I bolted it to 1x4 cleat so it would be held securely in a B & D workmate, it could hold a DH bike no problem

I also made cleats to go on a ski tuning rack and a shop vise

it was handy before I got my house

Think I may get a bench vice ,that stand , and the 2x4 I already use to clamp my ski vices to and add the wood cleats to them and use the small B&D workmate I already have for that

Its a park proffesional clamp with the 90degree arm that has 4 bolt holes designed by park to bench mount, along with a wheel building stand and bunch of other stuff I bought it all used or cheap from a bike store that was going under 20 yrs ago

I think it was the PRS-4 , on mine the arm is 2 piece with one telescoping into the other so IME the bench mount can be mounted a lot of ways

There are alwasy lots ofgreat ideas for a shop if you got lotsa room but not many for NO room so this was mounted on a wall or ceiling ( I forget ) literley in a space the width of a closet under a set of basement stairs which is all the space i had but it gave me just enough room to stand and work on the bike

then I mounted it to the 1x4 cleat for use on a B n D along with the shop vise & ski holder in a house i was renting and couldn't do anything permanent

then permanently to a bench in my shop shed so now I can't show you a pict of the stand mounted to the cleat
but you can see the cleat and go from there
