There is nothing else than now. There is neither yesterday, certainly, nor is there any tomorrow. How old must you be before you know that? There is only now, and if now is only two days, then two days is your life and everything in it will be in proportion. This is how you live a life in two days. And if you stop complaining and asking for what you never will get, you will have a good life. A good life is not measured by any biblical span.

Not skiing related, but here's a good one.

Mrs. Mtnjam and I were hiking back down from Holly Lake up Paintbrush Canyon on Friday. We were coming back from the loop around the alpine campsites where the trail splits and goes toward the horse camp or the backcountry camping.
Greeting were made to another couple, one of which looked just miserable and unprepared, no pack, probably a bottle of water from the Jenny Lake store. His, what I assumed, wife asked us "is there a faster way down" from where they were sitting, we told them they could do a loop around Holly Lake and come back right to where they were or they could go further up and make the loop back down into Cascade Canyon, which is not faster, but the quote "is there a faster way down" had us baffled.

This is the time of year when out of/new to towners are way too impressed with my shitty mountain biking and ask how much further is such and such as though it were just around the corner. Such and such is always way way further than they imagined or are prepared for.
Also, is it further or farther?
    No longer stuck.

It depends on where you’re going

    (( farther is distance.

further can be space or time
( a shorter distance that takes longer can still be further ( in Time). ))

    Mag: "Oh hello there"
JONG-ass Gaper: "I am unprepared and distressed, is there a fast way for me to get back to safety?"
    Mag: heh, go die

    I'd have done the same.

From last winter. We're at a Valentine's day Murder Mystery dinner, and end up at a table with a family from Georgia. Mom and Dad are about our age. Mom "I don't really go outside in the winter", end of that conversation. Son and his wife, 20 somethings, turns out they're backcountry skiers. What did you do today we ask? "We went up Taylor Mountain" gal answers, in full southern drawl. "It was our first time". (Taylor Mtn. is an easily accessed backcountry ski destination full of very large avalanche paths). "What did you ski?" my wife asks. "The East Face" (major avalanche path). "Was there any suncrust?" "What's suncrust?" effectively ends that conversation.

I'm sorry but this conversation is effectively over.

Maybe, maybe not. People's egos seem to be increasingly fragile. Also, elucidation is the nemesis of this thread...

Conversation I had on the Warren Lake trail just before the final climb to the top of Frog Lake cliff .
Mtn biker on e bike--Do you know the elevation here. What is it, 6000?
Me: 8000 or so. (I didn't say anything about ebikes not allowed on that trrail. But no way the guy would have got up there without an ebike.)
