Had an awesome day in the rain on Friday. Up top there was ~4” of great schmooo before they shut it down around noon. Down low the rain soaked “groomers” were the best piste I’ve ever skied at Alpy.

The Shell off exit 22 has some primo rain gloves in stock. Fully dipped, insulted, orange, cut level 4 work gloves. Way better ergonomics than my insulated rubbers…

The new Sessel is going to be a great upgrade. Will be much better for the lessons, too.

New chairs are always nice, and this has been on the books for 20+ yrs.

In the mean time I will still make snarky comments about both closing 1-2 weeks early (really guys? that snow road you want will still be there after May7th) and then likely also no uphill travel this year after the closure due to on hill construction activities.
Move upside and let the man go through...

Hey, construction is a great excuse!

But they should be building on Mt. Catherine.

I was thinking the same thing! Their video pan makes that terrain look pretty awesome.

Selfishly I'll gladly take two more Fridays instead of two more weekends (but it really shouldn't have to be an either-or thing).

Losing summer access will be a bummer but worth it in the long term for the increased uphill capacity. Love to see it!

Admittedly I didn't get that many days this year, so bit of a smaller sample size, but did it feel like they were opening the gates earlier/more often than in recent previous years? Perhaps to get used to operating with them open more since the Nash chair will be serving that terrain?

    Change sucks. Grrrrrr.
More uphill capacity will only result in twice as many gapers on the hill. Now you don't even have upper Nash as a filter for jongs and Jerry's, the amount of cliffed out rescues will be through the roof. The lines will quickly become equally as long as current chair 2 lines. You can take that to the bank.

Will the lines get longer on weekends when the parking is already full?

    Gondola from summit west.

The worst part will be standing in line waiting for 2 to load on a bluebird pow day and wondering if the international chair is already loading.

Or both chairs are now furtherdelayed for control work on rock face and elevator now that they are inbounds…..

    I’m speculating.

Sounds like this lift may just dump you around knoll 1 and give access to lower international, snake dance, and felsen? I tried to find more information but my 3 minute deep dive lost steam.

I just want to do some laps on a regular Sunday and not have it take 45 minutes to get higher than Armstrong. I think this could help.

Here's one that gives a better idea of the topography:

That will remove the Nash entrance filter and will increase skier density out there in more ways than one.

As long as parking capacity doesn't increase, lift lines have to be shorter, right? I'll be happy as long as parking capacity stays roughly where it's at, but I recognize some folks prefer to preserve snow at the sake of lift lines.

Ever since they added the low entrance to Nash many years ago, it's not much of a filter anyways. Any hack can take that low entrance and traverse over to skiers left where the slope is only 30-35 degrees.

But I agree carnage in the Felsen drainage seems inevitable. Even I get stuck in a crappy spot there sometimes, and I know better.

My apologies, but I'm referring to the initial drop on Nash, not the traverse. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really understand to what "low entrance" you refer.

There's no escaping that until this new chair.

Didn't they blast a bunch of rock to make this easier line something like 7-10 years ago? Now that line is usually nice and wide and relatively rock-free.Click image for larger version.

That’s marginally easier. That ramp still shoots you out pretty fast over 2-3ft moguls on most days.

I think a little contouring was done, but imho it's still an impediment to a lot of folks. I still see people walking up out of there occasionally.

    Anyway, it's a done deal.

Peace, love and eternal cosmic pow turns to everyone.

Sounds intriguing indeed. If I had to guess, probably something in the bowl above knoll 1 to protect the upper terminal of the new chair.
