I'll definitely check with patrol about conditions. You're probably right, likely not worth the risk especially with the forecasted snowfall/wind.
If in doubt, not worth the trouble. You definitely don't want to be below the last road on the map that cuts over to LBR. If you do, you'll be walking out or trying to ski down to the valley. Neither is a good idea...

If you're not familiar with the area or with someone who is, it's pretty easy to either try and cut out too high or get too low. Also, again, don't go alone.

I'll be rolling through ID/MT on a ski road trip next week and was planning on hitting Silver on Wednesday. Anyone interested in linking for a few laps? Hitting Schweitzer the three days before and have ski buddies there but rolling solo from there.

Doing a quick road trip in about two weeks and we will be hitting Silver Mt and Lookout Pass. I've been to Silver Mt before but not Lookout Pass, any intel would be appreciated about Lookout

We will be checking out the area for the first time. Arrive Monday night, leave Saturday. Hitting Schweitzer Tuesday. Either Schweitzer again Wed, or onto Silver. Planning Silver or Lookout on our last day for sure, Saturday. Would love to hook up for turns with you if our paths cross.

Damn last couple of days has been amazing. So deep and fluffy and it kept snowing all day at Mt Spokane. I left at 4:20. I’m sure lookout/silver got pounded but man, it was free refill all afternoon. I just rode under the lift to get as much turns in after getting there little before 1. Too bad the weekend is coming….

Snowpass, MT side is steeper. I never been to the new chair area but I hear you can drop in backside and ski down to MT side to the road but never done it.

Schweitzer was a ****/**** on the buster scale today. Some of the deepest turns I've had there. Sorry no action pics, but here's my puppy in trench town on our post ski hike.

Stellar couple weeks. As powder malaise and lactic acid set in I've started reminding myself that if someone doesn't flatten all these high spots they might not be smooth for the next reset. Community service boys. Take your B12s.

Is the panhandle avy center the best source for info locally? I'm looking at doing a tour tomorrow and maybe tuesday but I am entirely unfamiliar with the area. Found a guy to go with that knows the area but I'd like at least a rudimentary understanding of what the snowpack is doing. He mentioned west willow or granite peak I don't know either spot. Google maps tells me that west willow peak might be just east of Kellogg but IDK
But Ellen kicks ass - if she had a beard it would be much more haggard. -Jer

Super stoked to see all this! We land in Spokane in about an hour, headed to Silver for the week with groms aged 7, 6 and 2.5. We wanted to check out this part of the country and Silver's Waterpark will ensure everyone has fun. Missed the whole "30 min gondola to skiing bit" until after we booked but oh well.

Hope the snow holds up and is fun skiing all week! Will hopefully add to the stoke soon!

Probably. It's going to be pretty sketchy tomorrow and Tuesday, though. Probably for a few days so it's a great reference. Here's the site. https://www.idahopanhandleavalanche....rks-&-cabinets

Also, here's another really good BC resource, mostly for like-minded folks. https://www.panhandlebackcountry.com/

Hopefully going better at Silver. To the north the snow is already pretty sun affected unless you stick to the shade up high and tomorrow the snow level is supposed to go up over 5k' so it might be a good day for water slides. But Silver locals will be along shortly.

Gondi is 20 min and not a big deal. Have everything in a bag/pack before leaving the car. Easy. We got nuked by the sun today, unreal warm, pushing 50deg. North facing shaded aspects are skiing decent, everything else will be coral if it freezes tonight. Going to take every inch of the incoming storm to help. Tues on looks good. Big warm up again coming Thursday and friday.

West willow has options for safe, easy skiing. Not sure how well it would have survived todays warm up. Granite is a big day (from the Burke side) and gets nuked by the sun pretty hard. I’d be a little concerned about bad snow and/or avy conditions. Granite is low hanging fruit in about 3 weeks when the pass opens…
