Voile Hyper Manti

Anyone been on these yet? Can’t seem to find much info.

I love my Hyper V8s. Hoping to find more of a driver ski for the large range of PNW conditions.

Kinda stuck between these, K2 Wayback 106 and the Blizzard ZG 105s.

Any thoughts from the hive mind?

Yeah, the Hyper-Mantis are great skis. I bought a pair of 181s last season. They're light, solid, ski well in a variety of conditions. The mount point is pretty progressive, so, kick turns are super easy w/the slightly more centered mount. The tails are fairly stiff, so good for corn and steeps-they also ski well in powder. Long days are easy since they're so light. Light-colored top sheets don't stick snow. Super quick turning, but can also haul ass if you need to. I don't feel the skis are twitchy at all.


Prior to the Hyper-mantis, I had some Hyper-chargers for a couple seasons. The main difference I feel is that the Hyper-chargers were better in pow since they are wider. They had a further back mount point and weren't as quick turning as the Mantis.

Can't speak to the hyper mantis, but this is my 3rd season on regular mantis. Been a big fan of them (except the graphics, woof). Great in pow and shit snow. Agreed with the above, super quick turning. I've historically been on skis with progressive mount points - usually around -6cm. These are great if you're used to that.

If anyone's interested, I've got a pair of regular Mantis, 176cm and undrilled, that are available for a very reasonable price. I got them on sale, but I've reluctantly decided they are too short for me. Let me know if you're interested -- I'm in Boulder.

I have a pr. of 186 Hyper Manti I like a lot. If you hope to mostly ski good snow, are willing to deal with it in bad conditions, they great. I think they punch above their weight for skis in this class. Have mine mounted at -1 to -1.5 cm from the recommended boot center mark depending on boot. I think they are less damp than the Wayback 106, less powerful than the ZG 105.

Yes, just a comment on ultralight skis in general not skiing well the worse the snow gets. Nothing about the Hyper Manti in particular. In fact, I think Voile Hyper series skis ski better than lots of skis of comparable weights.

I noticed the dont have a notch for skin tail hooks. Do you find that to be an issue? I feel like all touring skins should have a tail hook notch. But I guess as long as the tail is flat enough (not rounded, which is the dumbest thing ever for touring skis) maybe its fine

The tail-end of the Manti is broad enough to keep a skin clip on with no issues, as long as you keep the tension on the strap/clip snug enough. Yea, a notch would be better, but I've had no issues with other Voile skis with the same tail profile.

If I could change anything about these skis, it would be this. While they're not horrible (sorta flat at the tail), they would be much improved with just a slight notch. My pomocas do slide off when I get lazy in my kick turns. Mostly user error, but wouldn't hate a crutch.

After posting my response on the tail suitability for skin clips, it occurred to me that Pomoca clips might be a problem. On my Voiles, I've used either the BD or the G3 metal flip-up tail attachment, and they have both worked fine.

Re: Tail clips on Volies. I always have issues with my tail clips staying on my Hyper V8s. Also using a Pomoca skin. I usually just get the point where I let them dangle cuz I get annoyed

Voile is making a tail clip to replace the Pomoca clip because the stiching on the skin wears out and tears off. It uses stock Voile straps installed on a three rivet metal bracket. Clip is plastic. Can be tightened or loosened easily so... it doesn't fall off. As for the hyper skis, I've skied on most all of them. For day to day, I prefer the hyper vector, refined from older versions. I think it's more versatile than the Manti.

I'm 6"1 and 140lbs. I just got the 186's but they seem pretty big. All say it skis as a fairly short ski. I in the past have normally driven 185/186 in the backcountry but would be good with sizing down. Decided to stick with 186 based on how it skis. Based on your experience do you think the 181 would still provide enough stability at higher speed coming out of couloirs and such? Deciding if I should stick with 186 or trade in for 181. Thanks! I'm about the same size as you and tried the 176 last year which felt right, but I'm a wuss who skis in skimo boots and prefer lighter skis.

Do you happen to know the actual tape measure length of the 186s?

Straight pull tip to tail they are 185cm.
