At Aomori Spring we had on average 2 rain events per season over the last three seasons (W20, W21, W22).

I cannot attest to it personally but was told there were 2 rain events in December 2022 in Kamikawa town. It has been snowing nearly every day since I arrived and local word is that this winter hit early and hard. Christmas delivered 90 cms over 2 days. All I do is shovel snow these days

I think you'll be fine. I'm sure your guide will find the goods and you'll probably score some good pow by the end of the week.

This was nearly a week after new snow near Tokachi-Dake and in an area considered “tracked out” by Japanese standards. You should be fine even if it’s not hammering.

<br>I can't send a PM as I'm new on here (I think that's why) but I'll be in Furano for two weeks in Feb if you're free? I'll have my own car as well.

No, about 30-40 minutes NE of the resort/town up near Fukiage onsen, Mt. Furano. Just SW of Tokachidake.

Thanks! I've had a look and there are some decent small areas around Furano. Not just Sahoro, Tomamu etc but some really tiny ones I've never heard of.

Niseko or Asahidake Touring in January?

    Hey all,

I usually ski in Tahoe at palisades, but I'm excited to be coming to Japan Jan 18-26, starting in Niseko and ending in Asahidake. Only catch is that I'm coming with a friend who just does XC skiing. So, we're both excited for the same post-ski activities, but I'm hoping to find touring partners, or even just inbounds skiing partners, for my days at Niseko Annupuri and at the Asahi-dake ropeway.

I'm bringing my touring setup in hopes of finding a partner, but I wouldn't head into the BC alone. I would also be very down to offset the cost of a guide if anyone wants to split.

    LMK! and sin for snow

    thanks,

    Nadav

Just playing catch-up here — Is Japan open to unrestricted/un-escorted foreign tourism as of this winter?

    Thank you!

    I’m currently on Hokkaido…

Yotei yesterday had 8” of fluff on top of a pretty good rain crust layer from the rain event 5 or 6 days ago.

Kokusai today was great with none of the rain crust to deal with. Very nice snow.

Heading to Furano in the next few days.

North of Niseko seems better to get away from the underlying crust.

    Today from Kokusai sidecountry…

Super cold, plus snow forecast for Tokyo on Tuesday. I'll be in Hakuba on Wed/Thurs and hopefully this storm delivers...it's gone from forecasting a meter of new snow next week down to just half a meter. Fingers crossed for a bit more.
