Mmmm. Thunderbeast. I'm a big fan of mine for the bolt guns. And that HK is sexy.
My recent pickup was a labradar, which is a radar chrono that'll do velocities at distance. Ballistics models, here we go.
Last summer, I woke up at an industry conference in a ridiculously hungover state to find that a customer had talked me into signing up for a long range match in Cody, WY. I showed up with a reasonable muzzle velocity, the Hornady-supplied G7 coefficient, newly-downloaded Strelok Pro, and an SRS-A2/TB Dominus/photography tripod. I was writing my holds on my hand with a sharpie. The first stage was a tree ladder where I might have gotten off three of the possible 10 rounds, and the second had three targets beyond a mile. I gradually trued the model and kinda learned to build a position on the clock, and by the second day, I was reasonably competitive. Anyway, one of the cooler things I've done shooting.
Long range shooting is a nerd sport, and as a card-carrying nerd, I'm going to get good at this. I built up a Bergara b14r (22 bolt gun) in an MPA chassis, and it's the first thing I pack when I go to the range now. I'll learn to call wind one of these days.
