More than a decade ago I spent some time on shotgunworld.com reading up on old Winchester shotguns. There were a bunch of - then old to me - codgers who knew everything there was to know about Model 12s, 21s and whatever other Winchesters you had questions about. Some were collectors, some gun smith's and many who just grew up shooting shotguns at clay birds or game birds. They knew all the ins and outs and would point anybody in the right direction for Winchesters. They had forums for all makes of shotguns and could probably point you in the direction of where you could find what you were looking for.

How many total? Want to sell them all at once or do you have 6 months?

Estate guys and sporting goods stores will hose you.

As I get into it I might post some pics but not just yet.

No I'll probably try to maximize the potential so it won't go as a collection. I found that GunBroker site pretty quickly, that's a useful place.

    ^^^Truth from Exsparky.

I got hosed on trading in some guns by a shop but I knew it and was okay with it. I could have made more money selling myself and meeting people in Cabela's parking lot, trips to the FFL, listing everything, etc. Depends on what your time is worth and the hassle factor.

Dont need a FFL to sell, or send. You need a ffl on the other end though.
Even if in the same city, exchange through an FFL..Its easy, and you are safe.
Sell out of state, must send to an FFL for the buyer to PU.. easy peasy

If you exchange through an FFl be careful, they will just run a back ground check on the other guy. You want the ffl to enter it into his book first, otherwise it’s a waste of time.

Just consign it and not deal with the liability. It’s worth 15-20-%

Excluding laws specific to certain anti-gun states such as California, NY, etc. here are the basics.

Handguns can be sold in-state from private party to private party.
Handguns being sold out-of-state must first transfer to a dealer in the receiving state, then be transferred from the out-of-state dealer to the buyer.

Long guns can be sold in-state from private party to private party.
It is a gray area on selling long guns across a state line. In person you can do it, but if you mail, it likely has to go through a dealer. My view is on out of state sales for long guns, run them through a dealer as well.

One of my concerns is a private party sale to a prohibited party, i.e. domestic assault, felon, etc. Running the sales through a dealer gives you some assurance that you are not selling to a prohibited party.

Gunbroker is a good place to see the high end of the market. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to get behind the screen to see actual sales prices. GB also takes a pretty good chunk from the seller.

Let me know when you have a list/pics together.

I've sold a pile of guns over the years.

I did no ffl's when it was legal in Colorado (it got so bad it was weekly for a bit) and consigned them after the rules changed July 1, 2013. I miss the old days.

The only problem I ever had was with a class III m16. The FBI paperwork never came back and he was denied due to lack of response.

If you purchased the gun more than 3 years before you sold it, its not a straw man deal. If you sell it prior, sell it for a slight loss so you don't get labeled a dealer.

If you inherit it, you didn't buy it so its not a straw man thing.

I have had a pistol stolen by an inside job at a sort facility in Denver. The postal office will lie to you and give you the run around. The ATF didn't care either.

Note: it is illegal to ship handguns via USPS. No wonder the Postal Service gave you shit and did not help you. You are lucky the ATF did not care.

For your own good, you should hope it was a rouge postal worker. I bet you package was X-rayed and your package was seized as evidence. They’ve probably got you on a watch list now.

    Holy shit!/\/\

Isn't there a limit to how many guns you can sell a year without an FFL? Does that change if you inherit them?

Just consign. Fed ex won’t take handguns from a non ffl anymore and the last collectible Glock I sold I had to take to an ups facility, ship over night, and it cost $100..

Here is the thing though. For what’s probably the same cost, I’ll consign and have it go into his book and I’m clean from liability. Private sales are not worth that. Think about it.

I almost sold a very rare Glock 22c rtf to some nutcase who rolled up with an AK on his backseat and a Glock in his dash, and I said no fucking way and walked away from 1800$ in cash.

    Cono...You make no fucking sense.
If it goes through an FFL, you are 100% safe. Especially locally. It costs 25.00..not 15%
Here in NM, we cannot even gift family with firearms.. must go through FFL....or jail time.
You want them to do a background check on the guy.. If they allow it to go, then you are 100% off the hook.
If you hand someone a gun that has not been NICS certified, and something happens..you are fucked

Maybe token can clear this up, no need for insults, I’m trying to be helpful and clarify to keep mags out of hot water.

Just a “background check” is not going through an FFL. He is not entering it into his book. You get no paperwork back, just a “he passed”. That may cover you with the atf, but aside from a private bill of sale you may have written up, there is no transfer through the ffl unless he puts it in his book. I’ve done it twice at a gun shop and they are basically not touching the gun. Shipping it to an ffl is different.

Gun shops have insurance. You don’t. Here, it’s no longer worth me shipping for $100 bucks, and I’m not giving a firearm to a stranger with just a “he passed from the back room” . I want the ffl to put it in his book first so I am clean. That’s worth me paying 20% on a 500 gun vs just 25. 75 extra is the same cost to ship now and no problems come back to me if the gun is stolen and used in a crime.

Again, don’t confuse it with shipping to an ffl, that goes in their book. Hopefully.

Were stupid for selling anyway, look how rich token is from never selling.

Just to help you understand, Any FFL that accepts a firearm of any kind must book it, whether shipped to them, or local transfer, it must go through their books.
It has to have a NICS check, and when it clears, the new guy can cruise, the seller is legit,,Simple

I asked my ffl if he has to log a private party transfer into his AD book and he said no. That means you could be held liable civilly if someone is shot and killed with your gun. It comes back to you. Personally I’d pay an extra 50-75 bucks to consign and not worry about that.

“The ATF just clarified this subject about two years ago. If both people come to me at the same time and I never take possession of the gun, I don’t have to log it in but I still need to list all the info on the 4473. They also they added a check box on the 4473 that would indicate that it’s for a private party transfer.

If the seller drops it off to me and the buyer picks it up later, I would need to log it in. “

I know the thinking on deleting stuff but I'd appreciate it if quotes of stuff I said could go away until I figure this out. Thanx. This might self destruct soon too.
