Rebuilt the wood stove at the A-frame as well. Check out the chimney pipe, it is stout and should last awhile.

Marshall draft plan looks pretty cool:
    https://www.engagemissoula.com/marsh...ecreation-area

Would be nice if they kept the old chair and maybe someday got it running so there could be a second beginner area at location of old T-bar. Hopefully move fast on getting plan implemented, magic carpet at old rope tow would be awesome for my kids(and lights).

^^ I used to love night skiing at Marshall. So cool to be in downtown Missoula and see the lights on up at the ski area.

I’ve heard that the lift had been maintained by the previous owners, since they wanted to sell it in working condition. Not sure how ‘seaworthy’ it is right now, but I hope the local gov’t considers giving it a shot.

I’d pay good money to have a place to shred after-work laps in the winter.

The plan has to remove the lift, so would be good for people to submit input to keep.

Way to warm out, but was snowing hard above 6000ft. Snowpack seems fukt for awhile, the whomping on low angle slopes was crazy loud. Ski down was way more fun than expected and worth the slog in soup in/out.

I have seen it get turned on and move, but it definitely hasn't been "maintained" to any extent and could never operate as a running lift again as far as I know. Plus I don't see how that would ever work out as it's no longer an operating ski hill for a reason. Summer use for bikes and events would kind of be nice but the last thing that place needs in the winter is more skiing. I went up there a week or so ago and holy shit, just skied out and ice and moguls and trees and bushes top to bottom.

It's already still not a sure thing that the city will even buy it then we're maybe back at square one because I doubt the owners want to be stuck with that place. That purchase was kind of a last minute temporary solution to keep someone else from buying it and probably trying to live there and close down any access or events on the lower part.

I would bet a substantial amount of money that the City will buy it.

Snowbowl skied way better than I expected today. I only went up because friend wanted to go and glad we did, lots of fun.

Anyone ski the past 2 days at the bowl? I'm expecting a hard rain crust on groomers. Off piste to be a lesson in humility. And typically shitty grooming.

Are my expectations in check for Thursday?

So yeah, rain crust formed on most of the mountain (save for the top 500 ft?). The dense new snow is helping to repair things, but it’s the kind of skiing that’ll get/keep you in shape for the next real refresh.

    Still fun though.

Damn. In my memory of 3 seasons at the Bowl, its always the last 500 feet that don't get rain, it never rains high enough to reset the avvy starting zones in Jenny Bowl, but definitely properly ruins inbounds for 2 weeks(longer on Pats bump).

Today was better than expected. A little busy, but manageable.

Back to back to back on upper Griz headwall was pretty damn good. 3-4" of cream over a crust that wouldn't break. I didn't jump into the main bowls, upper sections might be ok.

Skied yesterday and Wednesday. Its skiing a lot better than you would think. I thought the whole mtn would be F'd, but it's really only the bottom 1/3 that gets pretty bad. Upper third in the trees is good to go.

He puts em away for the first run down the bowl if it snowed over a foot the prior night.

It was classic Snowbowl variable conditions, both good and bad, depending on where you turned. One thing is certain, we now have a bombproof base.

    100%
And wasn't busy this weekend. I'm pooped because of the little bit challenging conditions and not having to wait in line at all.
The cold is drying the snow nicely now that we have returned to more normal temps.
    No longer stuck.

I skied the lift line of the new chairlift today, and can see it as having all that is needed to become a venue for the most profound meat-hucking exhibitions, except having enough snow, often. On powder days it could become an hudge source of entertainment on the ride up.

I've been informed, by an indirect but likely credible source, that the new lift was ready to run, but during a start up, the hydraulic rams, which tension the haul cable (as opposed to a lode stone system), were both somehow destroyed, and they are waiting on replacements.

New lift was running without passengers at 3pm Friday. I happened to be at the top and was surprised. Side note: the stop wand at the top was not in place, so that seems to indicate touch-ups to finish, but maybe getting close?

Free for local pickup: old Look Pivots, din to 14. One heel has always felt a bit Rusty stepping in but I've never had a problem with em. Everything should be in the box, pm me and I can leave them out in the alley for you.

Edit: added the Atomic binding, goes to ten.
