That’s kind of an amazing thought - improved traction for a v-dub van. Hmmm…

Oh ok. Im not a tesla guy but i was super impressed with how my buddies sticked to a snow covered road. Alot of that can be chalked up to the extra weght. I guess the vw and tesla could be put in the posi drive category as well.
I worked with poma putting in "goats eye" quad chair at sunshine village. The 4x4 work trucks and my old microbus were the only vehicles that could make it up the ski out after the first fall snow storm. Staff couldnt believe it. They wouldve been more amazed that i made it down if they knew how poor the brakes were

There were some popular stories back in the day about hunters or firewood seekers struggling up really steep, rocky or boggy boondocks legend roads in their hi-powered V8 4wd monster trucks only to get the meadow at the end and finding a bunch of hippies there in a VW van smoking dope.

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

I drove my 65 up some Jeep road to a dispersed camping area north of Tahoe in the early’90s. There were guys in 4x4 trucks and Jeeps that stopped and “scouted” the line, it was totally unnecessary

Is a wrx westie synchro a possibility, or has my random dream vehicle for the last 20 years been a figment of my imagination?

    For serious.

It's been done, but for a vehicle like the Vanagon, especially the heavy version with Westy stuff, IMO a better swap would be something with more displacement, like the Subaru SVX 3.3L engine. Or just put a 911 engine in. Pretty much anything is possible with enough $. Or just embrace the fact that it's a slow ride.

WRX torque curve all wrong for heavy Syncro Westy. Other options including modern diesel conversion sound sexy, but will destroy the very very expensive and somewhat fragile transaxle. This is definitely your best and most realistic option IMHO. https://thedubshop.com/mansispeed-va...bo-conversion/. It's on my to-do list!
