Bought my Pivot without really paying too much attention to the routing. It has both internal sleeves and frame stops. Whoever did the assembly did not route anything internally, most likely a cost saving measure for them..

Wish I could buy them a 12 pack. My Ellsworth's both had internal routing that I hated with a passion.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Heh, recently I did a little work on the cx bike because I'd ripped the bar tape. "well, tape is off I might as well replace the cable and housing." Do the brake cable trick on it and then realize, oh, right, there's a foam bit on the housing in the downtube. Oh, also the shift housing is under the brake hose and kind of gets wedged up at the bottom and I don't like this so I wind up pulling it all out completely and have to route a new housing through there. Anyway that whole project wound up taking a lot longer than I expected, but new cable and housing and bar tape and a re-aligned hanger and new hot waxed chain has it all running pretty good now.

It's not even about just brakes, either. The wife's bike has developed some shifting issues that will probably be fixed with new housing. Is it monstrously harder to do that with internal routing? No. Is it significantly harder than it needs to be, just so the bike looks 5% cleaner in product photos on a website? Yes.

That one depends a lot on the bike. I've had some bikes where the shift cable is a massive pain in the ass to thread through the bike. But the better tube-in-tube bikes are super easy. Swapping housing on my Enduro took like 10 seconds - just cram it in the hole and it pops out the other side. Easier and less wasteful than dealing with zip ties. And the housing is much less likely to get damaged by a stray rock or an awkward crash.

We've got two Spot Mayhems at the house. New generation with tubes in the tubes for shift and dropper housing is worlds better than the old one that I need to fish the line through. I love that technology in carbon frame design. Housing is just not that flexible for a 90 degree turn

Is this where we talk about the new SB160 frame costing $5000? Or their $9100 build having a mostly-GX drivetrain? Yeti can go fuck themselves with that shit.

People seem to forget about the Trump tariffs on bicycle stuff and that Biden didn't remove all them. Then again most people have short attention spans and politicians and the media exploit that.

I still can't find 11 speed chains readily available. 12, 10, and 9 no problem. What's the supply chain issue with them?

Cant you use 12s on an 11 speed if those aren’t available?

Have you seen how much a SRAM 12 speed chain is? I don't care to find out. I'm not desperate but I try to keep a stash of chains, disc pads, rotors, and cables/housing well stocked. Getting Magura pads hasnt been easy either. Plenty of SRAM pads though

Good link. I'm addicted to getting kickbacks from active junky so maybe if I'm desperate. It's so nice when Backcountry brands ship from Utah and I get shit in two days. Amazon doesn't even ship that fast to my spot.

Shit, my '93 Klein had internal routing that was AWFUL. But OMG, was that paint beautiful. I used to just put it in the living room, and get drunk just admiring it.

According to Universal cycles, about 4 bucks more than an 11 speed one.

$90 vs $55 if you look at XX1 chains. All depends on your objective yo

That being said I'm a middle of the road guy. Cheap chains break and expensive chains are 5 gram savers

Yeah, but the 11 speed ones aren't oil slick.

Which means the 11 speed ones are the same as an X01 eagle chain. Which costs about $50.

The X01 / XX1 chains last way longer than the cheaper ones though.

Funny a buddy of mine said the same thing.

Maybe so but this was 2001 and they were cutting edge at the time.

How often is sometimes? Can't see any reason to do that more frequently than once a year, and that is still pushing it. And at that point, why not just take an extra 15 minutes, pull the brake line, then reconnect and give it a flush?

Depends on the bike, but probably twice a year or so. Once at the end of mud season, and once at the end of the year. Can't really get everything properly clean without taking it apart. And sure, I could pull the line, but then I'm left with the shitty choice of either re-using the barb, cutting the line shorter to put a new barb on, or dicking around with removing the barb without cutting the line. And obviously I'd need to bleed the system, which isn't a big deal, but it's just another unnecessary thing to do. All of which could be avoided if the line wasn't inside the frame.

I just wish the ports/tubes were big enough to run the olive through, but yeah, tolerances n’ shit.
