Anyone have experience with Sumitomo Ice Edge tires? Usually go with blizzaks but found a screaming deal on some the ice edges that fit my truck locally

Discount Tires has $110 off (currently) on Michelins ordered online. I used that to get some bitchen new CrossClimate2s. Nice tires, really nice…and they’re all-weather.

Dang I want Xice 215/65R17 for my Subie (vs stock 225/60R17) slightly taller slightly narrower. Out of stock.

So if I go stock dimension, the Xice is 10.5/32 of tread while the DMV2 is 13/32 but has the good shit for only 55% of the depth. So when the DMV2 has <6/32 you lose the top tier compound, but no tire does well in snow with <6/32 and you just run those snows through the summer and trash em.

That means the DMV2 has 7/32 of tread to consume while the Xice has 4.5/32.

Maybe I will get DMV2 again

But Michy direct rebate here: https://www.michelinman.com/auto/dea...ns-and-rebates

I think that was what I had put on my ex's Subaru when she was resisting spending on snow tires. They were good enough that she not only got over the money after the first snowstorm but also convinced her parents to put actual snow tires on their rig.

I think the shop said something like "they're not Nokians, but they're pretty good."

Putting Nokian Nordman w/ studs on my work van. That thing has tiny wheels, the tires are $700 installed. It better rip the shit out of Vail pass this winter!

Are CrossClimate2s equal to snow tires?

First, let me point out that this thread is about ‘all weather’ tires. Then, no, they aren’t snow tires, but they’re just one (small) notch under snow tires. Enough has been written and posted about how good they are in snow that I’m not gonna go over it, other than to say I’ll drive them up to Taos if there’s less than a foot on the road.

    Fuck no!

My in laws have them on a Pilot, and they’re good for an all-season, but no comparison to the Hakka/VikingContacts I have on our cars.

    Good winter tire test:

Can skip to the last 4 minutes for a final summary.
    Or just buy VikingContact/X-Ice Snow/Hakkapelita’s

It also matters how new or worn they are. I've also had good luck(?) rolling what I consider a good winter leaning all season tire in MOST winter conditions. The eco blend compounds seem to do well on cold pavement.

That said, up around and over 30K miles on a 50 or 60K tire and they're gone and replaced if winter is coming..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

No, but I've found Goodyear Vector All Season Gen2's not far off the Nokian winters I used to have on my wifes car (Skoda Octavia 4x4). The Vectors have done nearly three years and about 35k miles and I'm only about to replace the front ones for this winter.

Caveat being that were in Scotland and not America but the snow we get here is horrible cold icy stuff it compacts into ice pretty quickly.

Anyone here using the Nokian One? It's an all season, and I don't think it even has the 3PMSF stamp, just the M+S one. Considering it for Mrs C's RAV4, or pay some more for a Michelin LTX.

It's a Nokian, so I assume it's got at least OK snow manners.

Buy some winter tires. If you’re driving in winter in the mountains, buy good winter tires. They’re really not even close to all season/all terrain tires for snow, ice and cold pavement.

It seems like the right thread, a bunch of gapers trying to convince themselves that their all season tires are nearly as good as winter tires for winter driving, fail.

The same people that justify a large quiver of skis for different types snow, it’s ironical.

Some people drive 75% on dry roads and venture into the mountains to ski on weekends and holidays. Some all season tires are good for that kind of use. No need to wear out a pricey set of Hakas driving around Denver, Seattle or even Wenatchee. Also, many folks aren't in a position to buy and store two sets of tires and switch them twice a year. I drove on KO2s for two decades in the mountains and did just fine.

My Audi Allroad runs Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 from April to Dec. And dedicated winters (different thread) the rest of the time.
In Colorado high country we often get snow in May and June so it’s nice to know the Contis can handle the bad weather.
I find the performance and tire noise is great all year on the All Season, even in dry and hot.

I agree on the storage, but not the cost. Given they will last 4 seasons it's not a significant operating cost. Especially if you're driving to go skiing.
