    shroom picking

Some fly agarics popped up under a spruce in a neighbour’s yard.

Someone’s been nibbling on the largest. Squirrel tripping out nearby perhaps.

Too warm & dry here too to bother ranging far for either shroom or more hot booded game. Did find a nice lobster on our recent camping trip in the Koots. Wife actually liked the cooked fungi this time. Must have been the reduction in bacon grease and garlic, and a splash of whiskey.

Hopefully the summer doesn’t go straight to winter. At least there is a bit overnight recovery near waterbodies. No frost in the forecast even. Such strange weather this fall.

Found a good patch of what I’m almost positive are psilocybe azurescens. LBM with no annulus, whiter stem, brown cap with pronounced umbo and purple spore print growing in mulched bark. Bruises purple, very bitter.

    What do you think?

I was going to say that they’re probably cyanescens. Azurescens are found in relatively few places. I did grow up in one of the m those places. Readily available free psilocybin it’s abundant in the PNW.

Yeah, I’m in WA, I didn’t see the mature caps until today. They’re very similar. I think they hitched a ride on some tree bark from the west side. They’re obviously not galerina marginata, so I dried them and got about 30 grams dried. I might go pick the rest, there’s still 10x that much left. I’ll take a test run tomorrow.

I grew up in Stanwood and we had abundant Liberty Caps. Good times

Azzies are crazy strong shroom... fully on involuntary paralysis..you end up thinking about moving for so long, you forget you want to get up and move... carefull... eat with caution. I've only found them along the state parks along
    mouth of the Columbia River..

Mouth of the Columbia is the only place they grow, I grew up in the area. There are cyanescens in beach grass along the whole coast. Azzies contain more psilocybin than any other fungi in the world. Type of mushroom you only give to people in controlled doses. Tap the mushrooms to release spores where you picked them and you’ll have more next year!

I’ve been reading about “wood lovers paralysis” associated with azurescens and cyanescens, what you describe is something they talk about. There’s some debate about it, is it just a really big dose of very strong mushrooms or some other toxin that’s present in wood growing psilocybe. I’m not going to start with more than a couple caps and stems from these cyanescens.

Turns out these cyanescens are pretty good, very strong. Two small mushrooms, 1-2cm tall and 1.5 cm in diameter are a nice starting point.

Edit: I see your dried ones, perfect. Nice find!

This year is too dry in the Puget Sound region for anything yet. Here are few photos of cyan finds from past years:

Yeah, I’m in Wenatchee, it’s weird. I found them in some bark in a landscaped area. In plain view very busy walkway. It’s nicely irrigated and we’ve had our first few cool nights

Quick little 5 minute forage in the yard. Way more Chanterelles and oysters this year it seems. Way fewer Lobsters.

I had a friend in sea who used to send me these. Huge bags with a couple hundred specimens. They were fantastic! The paralysis is a real thing tho. Give someone a couple/ three of them w the warning that they might feel their legs get gooey. I saw more than a few folks either drop or absolutely need to sit down in short order. I loved the feeling of them - unique and much more of a body component than others. Haven’t had that specific variety in prolly 25years tho.

No wood lovers paralysis with a bigger dose of cyanescens but these things are potent in relatively small amounts compared to cubes.

Thanks tgapp, I really didn't do much other than stumble upon her. It's the biggest one I've ever found (I'm thinking it was close to 20lbs), and to have it on my land was amazing. I'm a lucky mf.

I used about a third of it last night (had 10 over for dinner) and made this as a side dish:
    https://sabrinacurrie.com/recipe/veg...shroom-gratin/
It was good, I may just do another one and freeze it.

Today I got about 10 lbs of pines off a bud's property, so the dehydrator is busy tonight.
