Wild. Need to get back there one of these seasons. Maybe this one if it’s a good one, such a great place to ski during a cycle.

Lovers of sun-baked moguls rejoice! The trees that hid the powder from the sun are being removed, so you can point at runs from the lift and say, "I got down that once!"

Any updates on the new chair install? SB's web page and social media is garbage.

As of yesterday, the towers and sheave assemblies were all laid out in the parking lot with lifting cables attached.

I have never had any resistance to removing downed trees under the canopy, I am in favor of it. Removing the canopy exposes snow to sun and creates ice, this has been the case whenever Snowbowl has "gladed" in forested areas. They remove all but a few trees, and it turns into a bump run that ices up after the sun shines. Yay, get you some of that!

update on the new lift on the snowbowl instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cjg8aiwLZxy/
"Work in progress... Towers were flown by helicopter and set into place for the new lift Transporter. It will be ready for the 2022-2023 ski season. Preseason pass prices are still available so order yours soon."

Really hope that isn't the new name they go with.

Holy shit. Figured I'd hear any choppers doing work up there from near downtown. Guess not.

Reminder that pass prices go up on Sunday, 11/6.

Adult day tickets are $68 this year.

Oh yeah I've been putting that off. Wish I'd just done it in the spring when they had that really good discount going.

Rode my bike up there the other day, looks like it's going to be close whether the new chair is finished. Last time I was up there I heard a bunch of whining about how they're waiting for parts and "no one wants to work anymore."

That doesn't bode well for that lift. Is the top part of the lift complete?

I'm in for the midweek pass again, not worth it to battle the weekend crowds. If anyone skis midweek, let me know. I need to meet new skiing partners.

On Sunday, when I bought my pass at the SOS, pressed Brad on progress, he seemed confident and acutely interested in the subject, he said getting the haul rope up is the biggest hurdle they have. He did not seem to like it, when I mentioned that folks are nervous about it not being done already.

Being as it will be one of the steepest chair lifts in the country, I'm sure Sky Trac will find some uncommon difficulties finishing up.

What I think is interesting, is them touting that it will be available for downloading, I can imagine mothers with terrified children talking to Ronnie about the trauma their children will never recover from. Come to think about it, perhaps this will be a new form of Snowbowl crowd control.

Snowbowl, scaring kids and offending parents. TM

^^^Well they have been doing that for years :-). I had been thinking the same regarding downloading, but my 4 & 6 year old didn't complain downloading J1 at June Mtn last year(center pole riblet) it did have a safety bar. I was pretty nervous.

I'm curious why anyone cares if the new chair is done?...not like it gets anything new, busy powder days are still going to be big line at a hopefully running Griz, maybe a few people opt for TV, but guessing not going to be that many people. I don't think it goes to the top of TV? But I do enjoy following the updates and like that they hired professionals for the new lift.

Eh, people are probably just heckling them for taking 4+ years to install the Snow park lift, especially when each year they would say "it'll be ready for the upcoming ski season".

And regardless of whether the lift spins or not- now that a couple runs have been punched down that face (along with a lot of brush clearing and expanding the power-line run), that side of TV it absolutely going to get more traffic on a powder day. It faces East-Northeast, very steep, decent vert, and is full of old growth trees that protect the snow. Basically there is now a chance that I can go top-to-bottom without having a mandatory log-hopping/tree-squeezing/brush-whacking experience.

And in case anyone is curious- the google earthz just updated their satellite imagery with a shot from early-August. Shows clearly where the lift line start/ends, plus some of the run cutting work already done.

Yeah, fun to gossip about it and bust on SB. Definitely excited to check it out.

My google earth is still showing 2019 images...that is odd.

Alright, got a chance to slug it up to the ridge today. Definitely had rain down low, but it all got absorbed into the snowpack before the storm changed back to snow. Solid start to a base down low, with a dense 2+ feet up high.

As for the lift- cables appear to be fully-strung now. No chairs of course, but the line seemed to be ready to go. Quite a few slash piles going as well, along with the sounds of various power tools and heavy machinery echoing across the mountainside.

That is good news about the cable. I thought that I saw the cable strung on their last social posts, but I convinced myself that it was probably the communication lines.

    Looking good!
I'm in the Bay Area right now, so glad to see some photo updates. If it keeps snowing after I get back (soon) maybe I'll drag my lazy ass up there with my heavy ass setup. Weeeeee.

6" from yesterday's storm just south of the airport.

Anyone go up to the bowl and see what they got? I doubt they are willing to open early, but a guy can dream.

I might get into xc skate this year. The university golf course got groomed yesterday.

Hoping to go tomorrow if possible. Really curious to see how they fared vs. the stuart peak snotel.

It seems like more snow fell in town and south than the Rattlesnakes, maybe?
I also kinda want to go up tomorrow.

Also, "early" opening at this point would be anything before Christmas because of climate change. Ugh.

That seems like just enough to get hurt or really fuck up your gear
