On the bright side...it sounds like Watson has plenty of towels to share with Browns fans to dry their tears. Unless he only has one he used over and over again....washing it each time so it wasn't too krusty from the cleanup process.

Well, Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot confirms what I've been saying: the Browns have termination rights written into Watson's contract to avoid the deal.

"Watson's record five-year, $230 million deal with the Browns, signed as part of his trade from Houston, includes typical team protections that enable Cleveland to void the contract in the event of conduct detrimental to the club, per Cabot. But "nothing has transpired since he signed the deal ... that has caused the Browns to change their view of Watson."

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/b...ct-per-report/

They just aren't going to use it at this point because all this was expected (as two more women are going to file suit with plaintiff's attorney Tony Buzbee today).

    How fucking embarrassing.

Think about this: one year ago we were still in the glow of coming just 5 points away from going to the AFC Championship Game, having just curb stomped the Steelers in their own house in the Wild Card round and the future was bright and shiny with Baker at the helm. A beloved QB that wore Cleveland on his sleeve like so many in that city. Was that good enough?

No, Jimmy wants to be Jerry Jones and will burn it all down to get that title so he can brag at the next Owner's meeting.

    That’s a very righteous FFS.

The start of that playoff game was pretty rough as a Steelers fan. It’s nice to see how the universe is now recalibrating to restore the natural order of things.

At this point, the jokes write themselves.
26 lawsuits and 28 career wins. What a deal.

Please do enjoy the Mitchell Trubisky era.

The Cleveland Browns may be getting closer to trading Baker Mayfield.

Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported on Tuesday that the Browns have engaged in active trade discussions involving Mayfield leading up to the start of minicamp. While Mayfield’s $18.8 million salary is still an obstacle, one team has shown “urgency” to trade for the former first overall pick — the Carolina Panthers.

Jones notes that the Panthers currently have the best offer on the table for Mayfield. They likely want Cleveland to eat most of the money Mayfield is owed. It has been reported that there is a specific amount teams want the Browns to pay in any potential Mayfield deal.

The Panthers have seemed like the most logical Mayfield suitor all along. Sam Darnold struggled when given an opportunity to start for them last year. Carolina drafted Matt Corral in the third round, but the former Ole Miss star is coming off a significant injury and not expected to be NFL-ready in his first year.

There has been some talk of a surprise team entering the mix for Mayfield, but the Panthers make the most sense. If the Browns are willing to eat most of Mayfield’s contract to essentially buy a draft pick, a deal should get done eventually.

    All this makes me sad.

Neat how ownership could take such an embattled and abused, albeit fiercely loyal, fanbase and turn them into pariahs in one move.

    Just neat.

    Here’s what I’m rooting for:

NFL holds off on ruling on the suspension. More info comes out on Watson, including a Houston cover up and, after those revelations, the NFL suspends him for 3 years. That’s enough for the Cleveland management to void his contract and petition the NFL for compensatory picks due to Houston not revealing materially important information. NFL awards Cleveland Houston’s next two first round picks. Cleveland swings a deal for Jimmy G.

    How’s that sound?

Also, before you tell me I’m not being realistic, let me remind you that two years ago the Cleveland Browns won 11 games and beat the Steelers in the playoffs. This has far better odds of happening.

Maybe Kenny Pickett, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner, emerges as the next saviour at Terrible Towel Stadium, and the Browns pick up Mitch Trubisky cheap on waivers?

Perhaps someone can plant cocaine in DW's G550?

The various scenarios are mind boggling.

Jimmy G in Cleveland still makes me giggle. Good thing they don't have cheerleaders because the girls would be all salty the QB is better looking than they are.

How’s that sound? Sounds fucking great. Please Roger, throw us a lifeline here.

The Jimmy G era in Cleveland is something I could get excited about.

Right? Don’t people have fixers anymore? Someone call Kraft and see if he can recommend a guy.

The scenarios are way too wild and 100% speculative at this point. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Especially something so completely avoidable.

No cheerleaders but the Dawg Pound is full of ugly dudes so Jimmy’s gonna stand out even on a bad day.

We do have a house band I think (and G.E. Smith was a member at one point iirc), and that’s probably better than cheerleaders in this current environment.

Is Jimmy G even a top half QB?

When healthy, absolutely. His rep is worse because my fellow Niners fans expect every QB to be Joe Montana or Steve Young, otherwise they’re garbage. He’s a solid QB. Sometimes frustrating but good overall.

Kraft's guy would probably work better for team Watson

To curry favor, the browns would need to rebrand themselves as "Americas Other Team", or at least change their uniforms to camo and call themselves the "Cleveland Armed Forces"

He's also made some huge game winning throws he doesn't get enough credit for.

Just to keep people guessing, the Browns should sign Colin Kaepernick to a 1 year.

Wouldn’t the Browns have to demonstrate additional detrimental conduct? Or at minimum he lied about what had occurred? When you sign the guy with 24 pending lawsuits, I’d think the bar would be higher than, oh I forgot about her. Seems like he could have easily disclosed something like, “I’ve received massages from ~ 100 women. A number of them Massaged my prostate and jerked me off but I maintain I never raped or assaulted anyone no matter what these women say”.

I mean can you imagine his attorneys not insisting on him disclosing some broad general admission that would serve as a catch all disclosure?

What you are talking about are his representations and warranties, a highly negotiated piece of any acquisition (this is an acquisition no matter what it is called, employment contract or otherwise), and I guarantee that his reps about his alleged sexual misconduct have negotiated collars akin to what you reference (likely a basket set at a certain amount of known potential civil cases), beyond which the Browns may exercise any number of rights including terminating the Agreement.

This is what EWG and I are pulling for. Get out of this terrible, awful deal, even if it costs you a lot.

I need to hear more about the Commissioner’s List as I heard today after Watson spoke that is on the table. I’m not sure what all that entails.

Exempt list is paid leave. Sits him down without pissing off the players association. Allows them more time to make a decision so if they feel they can’t rule on a suspension before training camp it would probably have to be used.

Seems like Goodell has about 4-5 weeks before he’s going to be forced to do something.

Also I’ve started to DM Jimmy G positive facts about Cleveland.
