Sounds like she will trade for something with an Auto.

I DO want an RX-8 but that's a crack pipe price for that year from what I've been seeing. Good call on the RX tho. Been on the lookout.

Maybe the white caravan in the background, might be an early 90's AWD.

How much pain am I asking for with this one? Haha. Either it's a blown trans OR it's one of the multitude of possible simpler fixes known with the no reverse problems with this S-Type.

Worth a roll of the dice at this price?

What's a 2CV6? I know the 2CV but the 6 I don't. I wonder if that means it does 0-60 in under a minute when it's not going downhill? Probably not. Nice find.

Go for it! Those are pretty decent for what they are. They’re pretty much the same as the Thunderbird of that era. They share a lot of the same suspension components. Even if you’re looking at a new transmission they’re easy to replace.

You're right! Looked into them a bit more and evidently share the same platform as the Thunderbird and Lincoln LS. As far as Jags go, apparently really reliable and yeah. Most Ford parts. That said, my research is also proving that those S-Types are a dime a dozen and even at $2K+, the guys asking too much considering the possibly busted trans.

Also pretty cheap for the age is the XF. I wonder how much mechanically "quirkier" those are than the boring S-Type. Even the sexy AF XK8 coupes are going fairly cheap. I wonder why these haven't been on my radar more. Maybe I'm just skared of impending repairs and lowish mpg. Haha.

XF switched to the direct injection Jaguar 5.0l. Quite a bit more complex engine. I believe they kept the same(ish) ZF 6speed auto. Had some interior electronics quirks and issues. Biggest one I remember was the dial shift in the center console. Overall decent reliability but I wasn’t around for them to start racking up miles. They were quite a leap from the S-Type.

    FKNA haha. Could be

I like the ZF6HP26 a lot and in the bigger picture it's a pretty solid, reliable tranny. Maintenance really isn't anything over the top either. The reality to 15 or so year old Jag V8s is the 4.4 is pretty bomber and doesn't have many notable problems, the 4.2 SC (like mine) is a bit more quirky but if the wear items are replaced before they fail it's a really good lump. My problem is it wasn't before I got it and I tend to run things on a shoestring budget that should be run on champagne and caviar budgets.

Other than the Type R, the S-Type never did it for me.

It got a little better after they re-designed the interior.

I've always had a soft spot for the X-Type, especially the estate.
