He basically said what some of us have been saying - too difficult to check your speed in those conditions.

aymar crash insane.. thought he was dead, just a broken shoulder, amazing... basically the jeremie heitz line from 2016.. except jeremie barely managed a big right hand turn after the double to re-orient himself for the runout after the third drop.. aymars plan was to make that big right after the third drop at 3x the speed in shittier snow? i don't get it but glad he's ok.
on another note maybe someone is reading this thread because the camera work seems to have improved, most of the time the camera was the wide view looking straight at the face, the zooming wasn't as irritating as in previous years, and they didn't change camera angle 5 times per run.. if you're reading this FWT, it can still be better, zoom out to where we can see half the line/face at all times, the static chopper shot.. and just stay there for the whole run, don't zoom in, don't switch cameras, just follow the rider top to bottom with no cuts, and keep them in the top 3rd of the frame so we see as much of what's below them as possible. then on replay go crazy it you want, show us the close ups, overhead shots, the heli panning shots. drone follow cams, holograms, etc..
Oh, am I? The truth hurts. These comps are fucking stupid, dangerous, and dumb. Go watch one and you'll see the worst crashes you will see in your life: Parkite Mikayla Willis in critical condition after crash (kpcw.org)
I’ll agree on the camera shots. Definitely improved through the season. The drone angles are sweet but I want to see a more zoomed out shot that shows the exposure. Save the drone angles for the replays/you tube clips.
Aymar's line was pretty reckless, but there are all kinds of skier deaths every year from gapers to folks with 1000s of ski days under their belts. Then there are thousands more with traumatic brain injuries and other horrific injuries on the bunny slope. Plenty of people think skiing in general is stupid, dangerous, and dumb. Aren't we all junkies out there?
It's too bad conditions were not better this season but skiing in less than ideal conditions is one of the many things that makes FWT compelling as far as I am concerned. Conversely, even the most amazing ski flic footage, shot in ideal conditions with a chopper waiting at the bottom for a retry; hard to get super excited for that. Turdel slaying super smooth in wind blasted, variable sh*t on the other hand.... that's really impressive. And visual inspection only WTF!!!! So weird seeing Turdel bail this year btw.
And to the haters and trolls that are plaguing this thread. Thank you sharing your opinion, the FWT sucks, freeride is nonsense, Mammoth is the best, we get it, now kindly move along. I for one really like this stuff.
There is a crack in everything gentlemen, that's how the light gets in.

You do understand this is a site for 'adrenaline junkies' like Aymar. You're not in epicski any more Dorothy.

If you (not singling any one person out on this, the proverbial you) think the sport is out of control and don’t think it should be pushed so far, it doesn’t help to add views… The riders do this of their own volition, and the spectators do the same.

Yeah, good point. Yourself and most the tools on this forum ski just like Aymar......
And yes, these dumb comps are corporate creations to sell product, red bull, and corporate ski hills to dumb ass consumers like yourself. But most of all, like any good car commercial, the comps sell the lifestyle which in turn sells the products. Wanna be's stare into their computer screens, transport themselves into a fake world like the one you have created. A world where you "push it" and ski like Aymar. What a joke.
Anyone actually doing this kind of shit for any amount of time knows that the term "adrenalin Junkie" is not a positive or a partner one would want in any kind of a consequential situation. Other terms for "adrenaline Junkies" are: loose cannon, avalanche fatality, broken femur, newbie, amateur hour, gaper, tool, and my favorite-toxically masculine. Get sick with your adrenal gland bro!
edit- on a side note I had no idea Dave Grohl was the drummer for Killing Joke at any time much less when this came out. Sad side note - the drummer for the Foo Fighters died last night in his hotel room

exactly. I would be interested in seeing his horrifying list of severally(sp) injured athletes. Also the grim comment about more deaths makes it seem like they are commonplace. As far as I know the last (maybe only) one was in 2011 (2 years before the FWT was the guiding force for the sport) but I could be wrong. And there are thousands (probably 10's of thousands) of athlete's runs every year in the various comps at all levels (2*-tour) and disciplines (ski, snowboard, men, toxically masculine women).

You're not from here. Go home. This isn't your place. You're not succeeding within 1% of how you think you're succeeding. Look at how many views your comment has received. Then, look at how few of us are replying to you. Then, note that we're all saying the same thing.
You're not welcome here.
As if you are the decider and this is some elite group of sending bro's out there "pushing it" The select few who understand what it is like to be living on the edge like your close compatriot Aymar. funny shit
I don't belong here? nah, it is all you tools who don't belong there. Stick with watching TGR movies, stay in bounds, and keep the speed down. Remember, when you do some foolish fucking thing, slam into a rock wall at 100 mph, and end up limp someone has to pick you up. Those people end up in PTSD courses at the end of each season. As well, search and rescue crews don't grow on trees. Once resources start becoming expended there are less for people who may have made a mistake. Which is very different then people who are just idiots. Otherwise known as adrenaline junkies, the term that other clueless tool used. Also, when some dumb TGR wanna be fool who spends too much time on this forum ends up with their tib fib sticking thru their skin, it means the lift closes and everyone to the lower mountain. And on and on.....
But hey, hit that red bull and buy whatever that corporate sponsor is selling you. Send a bunch of egomaniacal junkies into garbage conditions for money and faux fame. Turn the natural environment into a way to judge, create a hierarchy, and make profit. These comps are dumb. Fuck freeride comps, carving comps is where it is at.
^^ Seriously though, you can just fucking leave. Literally no one wants to hear your bullshit.
dunderhead: you say a lot of stuff with authority in your tone.
I've been patrolling in the LCC over 40 years and picked up the pieces more than once.
Never had PTSD issues.
Never judged anyone for their lack of judgement when injured, in an avalanche, or killed.
Just there to help.
If you think that what is happening with folks sending is limited to and promoted by comps, you are dreaming.
It is pervasive now in all gravity sports for "fun".
And the gram...
I have also been personally interested in the comp scene on account of my kids (who are now 30).
They both competed on the tour(s) and am glad they are not, anymore!
My daughter was by Ryan Hawk's side when he passed.
Got back on the horse in Taos the next weekend.
He would have wanted her to.
Kept her feet on the ground, but got on with her (their) life.
Life does include death, by the way.
I think we all understand your point of view, have room for it, and appreciate it.
But when you get on a high horse and say that your view is the only proper one?
There are many points of view today and coexisting with other's views is more important than ever...
Carving comps? Those are called ski races.
Time spent skiing cannot be deducted from one's life.
Where do you suggest I go? You sound like a pubescent boy who just got his toy taken away. Should I cancel myself? Does my viewpoint trigger you fantastical and delusionsal view of what this industry is?
This aspect of the industry is nothing more than a marketing ploy to sell shit and send suckers into a meat grinder in pursuit of our own narcissism and maybe a free pair of skis. Kind of like the NFL and brain damage, at least those guys are paid well. A person who has written on this aspect of the ski industrial complex is Rob Gaffney. I would suggest searching some of his writing on risk mitigation and what it is like to loose friends.
This is just straight corporate profiteering off children who's not fully formed brains are marinated in adrenaline in a concussed haze from their hospital beds. The second I saw the conditions on the Bec I knew someone would come close to dying. But Red Bull needed their advertising so the show went on and we bought it like the good little consumers we are. Clueless newbies on this forum the target audience.
