Record high prices yet everyone’s still tearassing down the highway at 85 MPH plus. Big diesel pick ups, small 4 banger shit boxes, new priuses you name it. The only thing they have in common is that their drivers are all bitching about the price.

Here’s a thought — Slow the fuck down or shut the fuck up! Thank you and stay the fuck of my lawn while you’re at it.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

This very real phenomenon truly does crack me up. Perhaps wasting gas is the new way to brag about how rich you are, much like showing off one's toilet paper stash at the beginning of the pandemic.

I wonder if people are still pointlessly idling their cars all the time these days. People at bank drive-thrus are the WORST about this.

I've been known to rant to my wife about the idling morans in the grocery store parking lot... told her that was how I *knew* gas was too cheap.

    It’s my employees.

They never idle their own cars. I’m sure.
    My gas? Fuck it.
I even get idle reports. Have meetings. They still don’t give a fuck
Even if they hate me, try loving the environment

But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers

Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

You're going to trigger disbelief and accusations of lying. Unamerican! Inconceivable!

Sort of a humble brag, I hate needless driving. Drudgery. Blah. And because of that dislike, I apply myself to not driving. So - I'm down to 2k mi a year. Ironically & tragically, I own 2 vehicles which get abysmal gas mileage. That's a bit of a failure on my part, I probably shouldn't own any car. Walk. Ride bikes. Live in an area where that is reasonable. Simple, but not approachable for most Americans.

No great environmental stewardship here, I just hate being behind the wheel. I do rack up hours dirt biking tho so that's probably not so good.

How much gas you really think they waste...20cents? Seriously...do you shut your engine off at every stop light? Its noise in the whole scheme of things. Sort of like walking a mile and back to the store...saves 50 cents of gas!

I am not trying to bag on you personally...just point out how ludicrous the common advice is.

More importantly, who goes to the bank drive through anymore?

New research from AAA shows that automatic stop-start automotive technology delivers a significant fuel economy benefit. Test results indicated that automatic stop-start systems provide a five percent to seven percent improvement in fuel economy and reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared with tests conducted on the same vehicle with the automatic stop-start system disabled.
My car (2017 4 banger) doesn’t have auto start stop, I turn it off when I know I’m waiting for more than a couple of mins.

A pile is not a heap. Adding one to a pile will not make it a heap. Therefore, there are no heaps.

I got a big diesel pickup truck that gets 16.3mpg, which is about 1.5mpg better than a Taco or 4Runner with the A/C off.

I know you are just trolling but yeah one person isn't going to find themselves wealthy by skipping a drive here and there. What I do think is a better enticement is: people are generally miserable in their cars. So many aggravated drivers, so many frustrated parkers. Walking/riding is a preferable experience. Honestly, it's a joy. Time well spent. Breathe. And my belief is, once you start, it becomes habitual and then, yeah, it does make a difference.

But no one is forcing people to change. Just stop bitching about it - "cyclical ebb and flow of energy costs?!? who could have predicated that the price would eventually go up? man, if I had known I would have done nothing different"

Can one of you armchair experts explain to me how this Russian oil ban is hurting Russia? I get that Russia now has to look harder for off-takers for its oil, but doesn't it actually profit from the higher prices? Let's say the US is responsible for 10% of Russia's exports and it can't find an alternative buyer for that 10%, prices have gone up by more than 10% so wouldn't that be more than a wash for Russia? One article I read mentioned something about Russia having to discount their oil because of the lack of buyers but isn't it a global commodity with a global price that everyone pays?
