Those countries are putting their balls on the line. Being neighbors I guess they figure it’s worth the risk vs being next.

there’s also the fact that the ports are getting shut, and they might have to reclaim territory at some point.

i read from a dubious source that russia offered them a withdrawal for recognition of crimea, the territories, and no nato and they refused.

i wonder if it was just crimea if they would have gone for it, or if not because russia is obviously an untrustworthy party.
So what’s the alternative? Martyr your entire country? Sucks, but what is the alternative? Commit to defeating mother Russia?

    I don’t know the answer.

It's gonna get real ugly real soon, the time to act is now. That convoy basically can't reach Kyiv or a shitload of people are going to die.

edit: I guess this has occurred to them. I hope they succeed.

How many vehicles do you really have to destroy to completely clusterfuck a 17 mile long convoy?

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Maybe more than you'd think. There are probably lots of vehicles in that convoy specifically designed to clear wrecked vehicles from the roadway.

Ukrainian President signs Request for immediate admission into the European Union

Is that possible, what does that do besides putting Ukraine on the hook for all the military hardware coming into the country?

I gotta think their air force is super vulnerable, to SAM attacks from sites in russia, from russian planes air to air, and worst of all, from russian planes while on the ground, including their refueling facilities and runways.

If they lose them, they're fucked. If they still have a few, even if they aren't in use, they are still a bit of a check against future russian complete air superiority.

Satellite images show the Russian military convoy is now 40+ miles long

CNN reporting on the U.S. intelligence assessment, "Administration officials warned lawmakers in classified briefings Monday that a second wave of Russian troops will likely consolidate the country's positions within Ukraine and by sheer numbers be able to overcome the Ukrainian resistance"

I watch at least a part of those assholes every night just to see what kind of shit they’re peddling. They spout off bullshit to dimwits knowing no critical thinking will be involved in the eating of their propaganda.

She posits that near constant war is his only method for power maintenance and consolidation.

And her comments about his willingness to use Nukes are absurd. Yes we know about his use of nasty poisons, but to use that as evidence he’d subject Russia to nuclear MAD is plain dumb. Putin’s use of poisonings is an example of the opposite. It’s about as ‘surgical’ a strike as you can imagine.
This is helpful perspective and makes a lot of sense.

True, and 17 miles is long enough you can't just destroy the front and rear ones, theres a bunch of turnoffs to alternate routes along 17 miles of any road I'm sure, but still, I gotta think 17 miles of trucks could be vastly slowed down with a few javelines.

Kinda wonder if they want to draw them into somewhere favorable.

Random thought, the Battle of San Jacinto, where the Mexican army was 'masacred' by the Texian army after the Alamo, despite the Texians having 930 men to the Mexicans 1300. Texians lost 11 and had 30 wounded. Mexicans lost 650 and 200 wounded. The texians, outnumbered, burned bridges trapping themselves on an island with the Mexicans. Its just a trip to me how human psychology works. I get the Texian motivation, but you'd think not caring about the war and wanting to go home wouldn't just completely destroy the Mexican ability to even defend themselves from attack. Complacency and underestimating their opponents resolve clearly played a part. It still just blows my mind 930 can 'massacre' 1300.

I'm not sure about the short term, but it would give them some hope of developing their ability to extract their natural gas reserves once war is done.

Hard to tell what the point of this war is, but destroying that abilty seems to be at least an objective for putin.

I wonder how much that plays into the active narrative that NATO USA needs to declare Ukraine a no fly zone and start shooting down Russian aircraft?

I don't think there will ever be a no fly zone over Ukraine with the Russian army in the country and Putin in charge. Russian military doctrine allows for the use of tactical nukes if that were to happen and I don't think that's something we would risk for a non-NATO country.
