The picture of the four female teachers with guns hits hard. So does the guy putting his kid on the bus.

I also think about the hundreds of young RU soldiers, some of whom were likely conscripts, blown out of the sky in an instant.

Many videos of RU conscripts POWs. Sad to watch. The fuckers say they did not know where they where going.

Their family and friends need to try to do something to help them get home. Anything would help. Go to a protest. Throw a rock.

I also just saw a scene on the tv of a Russian troop asking who he’s supposed to shoot at

They look just like us. Who am I supposed to shoot?

    I guess they would

    It’s insane what we’re witnessing.

If Russia pushes westward I can see us possibly pushing back.

Who knows how that would end.

Anyone dividing the country right now is a traitor and should be shot. Trump included. I support President Biden and have said that several times. He’s a hero for sticking his neck out the last month.

World wars don’t start in a week. It still may happen. Putin may be waiting to draw the west into this. I’m surprised that he didn’t go in with more force yet.

He might have miscalculated. They didn’t expect such fierce resistance. They thought the local cops will take over and cross to Russian side. That didn’t happen. And the 18 year old conscripts from RU side have zero motivation to fight. Belarus may send their kids into this shit too.

entire country stepping up to gorilla warfare is something. Ukrainian people could be beasts. If only they could play soccer the way they street fight and do gorilla warfare.

On the other hand, the occupants have not started bombing civilians with Grad missiles. The worst may yet to come. Hope it doesn’t.

The germans are helping protect Kiev from russians. That’s like a madman drivel. How crazy is that?

UA set up a site for killed and captured RU soldiers. Amazing gesture for the families.

THREAD 1/7 Intel from a Ukrainian officer about a meeting in Putin’s lair in Urals. Oligarchs convened there so no one would flee. Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days

2/7 Russians didn’t have a tactical plan. The war costs about $20 bln/day. There are rockets for 3-4 days at most, they use them sparingly. They lack weapons, the Tula and 2 Rotenberg plants can’t physically fulfil the orders for weapons. Rifles and ammo are the most they can do.

I think its more that the ukranians are fighting for the here and now and not some 70 virgins later. The piont is to make the other bastard die for their country after all, not die for yours.

I've been trying to figure out what putins plan or endgame is and entertaining increasingly insane explanations, like hes intentionally starting ww3, which, while possible is probably not the plan. I heard something a lot simpler though, hes just trying to destroy ukraine. thats it. He doesn't have the power to stop the spread of nato, but he can set a precedent that if you join nato he'll fucking ruin your country and face sanctions. Seems petty but perhaps the most likely explanation for this war and his long term plan. makes a sort of sense, if nata gets another strategically important country, lets just make sure its a shithole first. Such a fucking waste though. Best explanation I've heard, I'd welcome any thoughts if anyone else can do better.

Somebody has thrown red dye under the bridge of St Petersburg's Griboiedov canal.

It is right in front of the Church of the Savior of Spilled Blood - Церковь Спаса на Крови - the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in March 1881.

    The message is clear.

God bless them. First glance makes you think its supposed to represent the blood spilled in ukraine, but no, thats where that is, thats not what that represents. Poetic.

@ Leroy's ponderings: Putin wants to be in the history books as a colossus who restored Russia to its rightful glory. Part of that is reincorporating countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union, e.g. Ukraine. He thought Ukraine was a good starting point because the existing ongoing conflict gave him cover.

Yeah, well, get in line, Putin. I'm still trying to find bike parts. Smart, starting this thing when people are paying 5 grand over sticker on a Mercedes.

There is a whole generation of Russians that cannot relate to this Soviet type doctrine. The best hope is that Putin has underestimated the consequences internally from this decision and he is killed like a dog in a drainage ditch.

You should do that in PolyAss. We should have one thread where we can discuss the Ukraine without that moron. Because I doubt the Ukranians really give a fuck about it.

    Ok, I’m done.

The $350 million Biden promised looked small to me. I'm not a master strategist, but I feel there's a good chance we have to stand against Putin some day. Later will probably be worse. Pouring more money/arms/support(/personnel?) into Ukraine now looks like a very worthy investment. Probably pays 100 to one vs fighting him ten years down the road in Poland or France. Judiciously, as the world must mind its other dictators*. And holding the biggest olive branch we can find. Best for all if peace breaks out.

And as I do the math, the world currently sends $350 million a day to Russia for oil. (I don't know the details of their contracts, simply multiplying barrels times price)

    * best if the outcome reminds them all that war is hell and peace is good.

France on Saturday seized a car cargo ship in the English Channel that Washington says was linked to the son of a former Russian spy chief, in one of the first visible displays of the West enforcing sanctions on Moscow over its Ukraine invasion.
