You all forgot about the awesomely reliable all wheel steering in the 3000 GT VR4. That added a whole new level of reliable to the menu. It even managed to fuck up an otherwise perfectly good Honda Prelude for a few years too.
If its anything like the rear wheel steering of same year nissan 240sx’s it could easily be removed/disabled.
Crashed several of those lil buggers
I have a '93 Diamante wagon that I have occasional thoughts of installing the drivetrain from one of these into, I think it would be a fun car with turbos, a stick, and AWD. The Diamante has just over 100,000 miles and is incredibly reliable I'd hate to change that just to have a faster car that I never drive.
I know it's dirty and the trim is missing in this picture

$5500 for a first gen that needs literally everything? The car market really has gone nuts. For less money all-in, he could have this nice 2nd gen:

100%. When I turned 16 my dad gave me the Montero Sport and picked up an eclipse spyder. That thing just drove well. He'd occasionally toss me the keys when I was heading out of the house, and honestly it's a miracle I never totaled that thing. He definitely rolled over in his grave with the god damn "eclipse cross."

Fuck theses assholes.
Seriously. Just get that fucking Jag I posted up on page one.
I start thinking, what’s wrong with a Camry/accord/maxima type decision if someone needs a reliable car on the cheap.
So I go over to the Austin CL, I heard you was in Texas, not sure of true but anyway, look up Camry < 5k and the results shocked me.
6 vehicles and the only not piece of shit or “$1” (fuck you bozo) listings just pissed me off so unbelievably bad. 4500 dollars. For. A. FUCKING 22 year old car!?!? 4500 dollars?!?!?! Seriously fuck the entire car market. Fuck the makers. Fuck the sellers. (Ooooo looookie!!! Got me a pot of fucking gold now with this virus on!!! Oooo weeew!!)
4500 for a 22 year old shit sedan. (OK. Good. Boring maybe, but good) And fuck the seller who’s hocking the 4cyl as a “gas saver” “gas saver” over what you fucking fucktard? Over the 6cyl version? Hardly. 1 mpg better with oh I dunno, half the fucking power. Gas saver. Kiss my ass and get fucked. Actually get fucked while you kiss my ass, I got a kink.
4500 bucks to look "smart." Nope. Nope. Nope.
Get the fucking Jag. At least you can roll like a fucking Boss.
And how come I can’t get a fucking pizza for less than 20 fucking dollars?!? Back in my day a coke only cost a buck fiddy. Get off my lawn. Wait. I don’t have a lawn because I rent an apartment. Who could buy a house with these prices?!?
4500 bucks. Fuck off.

If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!
Yet you post a 48 Roadmaster?
Man that car brings back some memories. My grandpa had a perfect ‘50 Special Deluxe. I forget how he got it, maybe he always had it. Black with all the chrome. Less than 500 miles. Original everything to the seat covers and spare tire. He replaced the original tires in like 83. His was auto. It wasn’t ever worth much on a collector scale, the coupe could bring a few bucks here and there. I always thought it was so cool lookin. It was always a treat to cruise around the neighborhood in that old thing. So huge.
He gave or sold it to his half brother in maybe 2000 or so. He wanted me to have it but I couldn’t take it. Never had a place where I could properly care for it. Prolly still cruising in the TX hill country somewhere. Thought I saw it inFredricksburg once but it was one with a spotlight.

Quality rant! You perfectly described the pain and frustration I've experienced over the last couple years of fruitless affordable car shopping, and it's only gotten worse over time. That Jag WOULD be perfect and I'd be all over it if I didn't have to trailer it all the way from California. Good luck getting a U-Haul there and if you do find one, it's gonna cost a fortune.
But yeah, if I'm gonna get ripped off on anything reputably reliable (but likely a broken piece of crap cuz its CL sellers in this asinine market), I might as well go for something quirky, a nice interior, and somewhat fun, even if it's not good. Case in point. I'd rather get that broken BMW 760i or that Jag XF for a couple G's and get it running well enough than get bent over on a freaking rusted out Camry with 300,000 miles, and an interior that looks like a pack of wild hyenas got in a fight in there and then finished off by some bums having a 'soup kitchen' in there. That's why I was so intrigued by the Volvo 240 wagon I saw the other day which of course sold instantly, as does anything remotely clean and not a blatant ripoff.
Good thing is now I have more time as I did not land the job I was hoping I'd get, thus the car adventure can continue without such desperation. And perhaps I can shoot for something more worthy of the spirit of this thread, aka broken BMW or Jaguar. Haha.

Ha! The market does seem pretty dumb right now, for sure. Yeah that 240 was sweet. My cousin got a cherry 81 in like 2015 and I pulled into the driveway for Christmas and was like, damn, mike must be doing good.
But not that Jag, this jag:

I’ll drive it over for ya. I’d even fix anything that’s rubber or plastic if it fails on the voyage. Like a BAAWWSSS. My favorite part of the ad is “it doesn’t leak, except it leaks.”

I had two of these back in the day. '69 and '72. Sometimes they ran. This one is a little pricey at $22,500.
